I guess I never realized how lucky we are. I have been paying $10.74 a month on the water bill, including sales tax, for weekly pickup by Waste Management, every Monday, regardless of weather, holidays, etc. (even on Christmas Day). Brush has to be tied in 4' bundles, but otherwise anything 2 men could pick up and put in the truck was gone. We can set out bags (we do) or you can use garbage cans, any kind you want. If I wanted to haul stuff myself, and I did when I pruned trees, it was about 15 miles to the landfill, 7 days a week, no charge. Waste Management provided 35 gallon wheeled garbage cans for recyling (up to us as to whether we used it, and we did). Hazardous materials could only be taken to the City maintenance facility (less than 2 miles) on one Saturday a year, or we could take them about 40 miles to Ft. Worth just on certain days and times.
But the first of the year, the City changed from Waste Management to Community Waste Disposal. Basically, the same service for $8.69 a month, including sales tax. But a limit of 10 items each week (but they say to call for special accomodations, whatever that means, and if I want to haul stuff myself to them, it's about 35 miles, 3 half days a week. But supposedly we can call if we have hazardous materials to go and they'll deliver a container and pick it up. They also provided a monstrous recycling bin that takes more storage space, but we don't need to put it out every week.
