To work or not to work is not the question. I always thought that being retired meant that yesterday you got tired and today your're tired again. Like many of you life without doing something physical is not really life.

I'm 8 years from being able to collect Social Security. I have been involved with manufacturing engineering for the past 25 years working for two different companies, one for 27 years and the other for the past 8. Over the years I have done rubber and plastic molding, physical vapor deposition, electrical discharge maching, tool and die work/ mold making, traditional machine shop work and some CNC.

I have always enjoyed my work, but I do look forward to the day I can spend more of my time working on my projects, although I hear the pay is not as good. I can not envision not working and hope I have the health to continue as long as I am on this planet.

TRUE But you can't beat the fringe benefits.
You couldn't ask for a nicer boss either.

You guys that are older and not on any meds.. do you have coverage? I can't believe you should'nt be prescribed something... Wow! count your blessings i say!

Yes, I have coverage, ins. and pres., but I don't drink, smoke, I work, I walk, try to stay active, etc. Just don't have any problems. I watch what I eat (don't want to miss anything), I am 2 pints away from being a 10 gallon blood donor (that's how I keep track of my cholest. and blood pressure for free). I consider myself blessed.

Yep, I have insurance coverage (costs a fortune), I still have a drink (usually wine) most days before supper, just quit smoking in July after 47 years (not for health reasons, but because of the high cost and the fact that the house and car will stay cleaner), used to work a lot and stay active, but not anymore. And Carter Bloodcare called on the phone last night wanting more of my blood (as they do if I don't just show up at least a couple of times a year).:D

Today marks my one year anniversary of retirement life. I lived in the big city my entire life. We bought a little land and put a little cabin on it called it home. I am living my life long dream of sitting on the hill and watching the wildlife and the cows graze and doing whatever project seems interesting at the time. If you have seen the show "Green Acres" well thats about it, except the wife does not walk around in a flowy white gown and I got a better tractor.:D

And no, I do not miss the job or the city.

I turned 35 on 10/29. Been offshore 13 years, same company for 10 years. Only 30 years to go. I wish they'd give me what I've paid so far in Social Security and never take anymore, I'd retire at 55 and never ask for ss. I'll probably never get it anyway.

I'm working stiff and get pay very well. 4 1/2 more years to retirement. Probably will be working even harder, longer hours and no pay...
