Ariens log splitter

I think the Ariens will win out. It is more splitter than I really need long term but that isn't bad. I have about a dozen or more of the larger Oaks to split and too many smaller ones to count. I also have a free source of all the large Oaks I can haul from right next door. The biggest selling point will be the service available in my area.

I did look at the DHT and while I have no doubt it has done the job and woild do what i need, the lack of local service and parts is a concern. I appreciate everyones input on the subject.

Over the years I have learned the hard way that the only small engine I will buy has to be a Honda. Nothing else lasts or starts like them. The rest is almost insignificant to me, as long as it has the Honda engine on it, the odds are very good that I'll be happy with it.

I bought the Troybilt 27 ton log splitter from Lowes because it has the Honda engine. I've had it a couple of years and absolutely love it. It will split anything I can pick up. My brother has the same log splitter and hasn't had any problems with his either.

Check out Northern Tool splitters. I have owned two. The first one is still operating at my in-laws. It was a 20 ton unit purchased in 1989. We put a new motor and hoses on it this year after 25 years. I heat my home and domestic hot water with a waterstove exclusively so the splitter has seen a lot of use.

I replaced the 20 ton with a 30 ton unit from NT. It has a Honda engine and is a horizontal/vertical model. Cycle time is 14 seconds versus 18 on the Ariens. If you split wood for several hours at a time, 4 seconds per cycle adds up. It is the same price as the Ariens.

I don't know much about the Ariens splitter and by the recommendations here I doubt you will go wrong with it.
