Arlo pro 2 camera system ??

I would not say they are expensive at $318 for base station plus 2 cameras at best buy if you say so.

I think I read in the description that the Arlos only offer cloud storage of the images/video they take. With only satellite internet service available here, that was a non-starter for me.

If I recall correctly, you must sign up for a subscription plan to store/review/use video. No go for me.

I feel I got shafted when I bought the Netgear predecessor to the Arlo which has all the same functions. Then a year later they came out with the Arlo and dropped support for my system.

Wouldn't trust netgear to not do it again.

coobie, you are actually correct, my word choice was poor since in fact I think all cameras are expensive. Let me say instead overpriced, because no matter what their absolute price is you are paying too much if you get them, in my opinion.

Thanks for updating us. Can you get the cameras to write photo/video data to a hard drive somewhere on your network?

And can you see the output of the cameras when you are away from the home, via the Internet?

Can"t answer your questions questions as I am not very computer Savvy..

Arlo video is very sharp and high fidelity. We lost our system in a house fire, but not before it got video of the arsonist. The video is uploaded to a cloud account, and that can be downloaded to your own hard drive or other storage. Arlo has a free plan where video for a week is stored on the cloud. Course, if you don't download it and it is beyond the week, it is gone.
You can watch it from anywhere using the web client, or smartphone client. And can download the video to your phone or computer.
Our video was so sharp that the prosecutor and public defender for the arson case recommended the arsonist plead guilty without contest (even though he first said - there was no proof and he was not there). He was found guilty and now is serving >10 years.

The major downside to Arlo for me was battery changes. If I put them in convenient places to change the batteries that is also an easy place for a crook to reach and destroy them.

I mounted my cameras high enough up that you would need a ladder to reach them.The batteries are rechargeable,time will tell how long they last between charges.My good friend has the same unit that i purchased he told me he recharges the batteries every 2-3 months.

My new system is not wireless but it is awesome. Lorex System with 8 1080P cameras and a 2 TB DVR. FLIR App on phone, the video is incredible. Email notifications when the cameras detect motion, with still images contained in the e-mail.

Videos I've seen from cameras mounted high like that have very good pictures of the top of people's heads, but faces are difficult to see. Since the videos are stored somewhere else on the network, losing a camera will be accompanied by very good pictures of whoever got close enough to steal it. That's a cheap price to pay for images that are useful in identifying the perpetrator. Make sure you review images from your cameras to make sure you can see people well enough to identify them, even if they don't look directly at the camera. Do it in a variety of lighting conditions, even at night. A lot of security cameras have wide angle lenses so they can cover a lot of area, but the people in the images appear so small it's all but impossible to see facial details clearly enough to enable positive identification. Check your images for the ability to clearly identify anyone that appears in them. This also applies to outdoor cameras along roads or driveways that are supposed to be videoing license plates. It's rare that such images are detailed enough to actually see the numbers and letters on the plates...:2cents:

We also have deer cameras set up on our property.The arlo system is in the house/barn areas.
