Artemis has left Earth orbit and is headed to the moon. It'll take 4 days to get to the moon instead of the three days Apollo took. The reason is that the Moon is more distant from the Earth at this point in it's orbit, and Artemis will pass farther from the Moon than Apollo did.

I watched a story regarding the heat shield. On the unmanned one they had some degradation and video of pieces coming off. So they kept the same heat shield on the manned mission, but changed the trajectory to lessen the effects, hopefully.

There's something about that (I think) 6 minute communication blackout during re-entry that is the most tense moments.

Artemis I skipped of the atmospher to slow down, bounced back into space to cool down, then re-entered. NASA thinks it was the heat up, then cool down that gave the shields trouble. Artemis II was supposed to come in the same way, but they changed to a single re-entry a couple days ago.

The plasma envelope surrounding the spacecraft during reentry blocks radio signals from or to the spacecraft. Once it slows and the plasma dissipates, communication can resume.

Did you all pickup on the communications issues with the SARSAT teams?

Amazing we can get comms from interstellar satellites, and tracking satellites, and around the moon and back (in spots). But looking at something right in front of you, no com. Sometimes the simple, really is not so simple.

Continued success! Let's get back to exploring and beyond.

I was surprised at the video, or lack there of, of the re-entry.

We can look at Neptune clearly, but we can't get a good picture of this "meteor" coming in?

Somewhere (X maybe?) someone made the comment like clear pictures of the moon but the landing/recovery looked like it was shot on an 80's VCR camcorder.
