Asparagus ????????

What is the best way to revive an old asparagus patch? My son mowed this patch down a few years back. This patch belonged to my deceased FIL. It has slowly been recovering from his butchering with the riding lawnmower. I'm no farmer here and need some opinions to save this patch. The section in question is about 40 feet by 3 feet. The plants are random all over it but not close to each other. Should I buy more and plant them to fill it in? Or will this fill in on its own eventually? What type of fertilizer and other things do you put on it like Lime or whatever?

Just let the patch grow. A couple of years and it will be back to normal. Asparagas are heavy feeders so a little fertilizer or mulch may be in order.

That's hard to answer. It may be best to ask someone familiar with your own local conditions. Your county extension agent will know more about your soil (structural type soil, pH, etc.) Lime is to neutralize excessively acidic soil. The soil structure, organic content, level of nitrogen, phosphrorus, potassium, etc. would determine the fertilizer. This is a local question that requires a local answer.
