Hornets Nests
These are the first two hornets nests I've had to remove from the house since we built it.

One nest seemed abandoned. The other nest had an occupant. I waited for the occupant to leave and knocked the nest down with a telescopic pole.

The occupant returned but it no longer had a home.

I also knocked down a wasp nest.

They don't reuse the prior year's nest. Best to spray the nest at dusk or later when they've returned to it, otherwise they will just build another nest, or you might get attacked if they return while you're invading their space. Read the can instructions for further details.

wasps are starting to build on my porch, just like they do every year. But no hornets.

Yesterday I knocked removed two wasp nests off of furniture on the back porch. The first nest only had one wasp so I tackled that one when the wasp left. The other nest had 3 wasps so there was always a wasp on the nest. I took the recommended tactic advised by my FIL. I slowly turned over the table while the wasps were on the nest. The wasps started flying around. I finished turning over the table. I made sure to not run but acted like I knew nothing about the wasps. My FIL told me not to run. The wasps ignored me. Then I knocked the nest off the upside down table with a stick. Then I turned around and ran - ran right into a porch post. Ouch. Not my most graceful move. I did not get stung.

The new push mower seems to work well enough. I tried mowing in regular side cut mode and mulch mode. When in mulch mode, I didn't like the noise the mower was making in the tall grass. So I switched back to regular side cut mode.

I installed this safety feature on my mower. I was concerned about heat exhaustion caused by having to restart my mower every time I let go of the mower handle to pick up a stick in the yard. My new safety feature did the trick.

Cue the safety police.

I learned that trick as soon as they put the kill switch in place.

I always use a spring clamp to hold that bar into place.

Why would you let your grass grow that long before cutting it anyway??

You should never cut more than a third of the blade of grass in one cut to keep the grass healthy.

I now know why your push mower in mulching mode made noises you didn't like!
