At Home In The Woods

Thanks all for celebrating with us. Last night when I got into bed, it was like staying at a nice bed and breakfast. The bed was sooo comfortable compared to the camper bed.

Today we backed the storage trailer into its spot beside the camper. It seemed easier to back it in today than it was to pull it out forward on Friday. Today we could do it in the daylight which really helps. Plus, moving the trailer empty is less stressful than pulling it full.

We went to Lowes this afternoon to get a shower rod so we can take a shower.

This morning I took a bath in the claw foot tub, it was quite a treat. However I found out the upper overflow drain for the tub leaks badly. I guess the next few weeks will be filled with appreciating being able to live in a house and finding out all the things that don't work.

I hope all is weathering well in the snow....
congrats!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

and stay warm!!!!!

With all the insolation in that house compared to what there is in a camper, it probably feels like they got a house in the Bahamas.

So. . .now you have a river property and a camper for sale, eh? ;)

Congratulations!
Yes. And the 28 foot car-hauler enclosed trailer is for sale too.

The trim carpenter has indicated some interest in the camper. We've talked about possibly having him do some work for us in payment for camper. He's done really good work for us so we'd be willing to give him a deal. Plus we're motivated to get the camper off our property.

We are in the midst of a winter storm that started last night. I was able to drive to work this morning. About half the people didn't make it to work today. On the way home I almost lost control of the car in our our neighborhood on ice going downhill. If I hit another ditch, the guys at work would have to give me a nickname. I can hear it now - "Here comes Iceman!".

Tonight and tomorrow we're in for more bad weather, likely sleet and ice. I'll probably work from home tomorrow.

I really wish I had some dry firewood. It would be wonderful to have a fire going in this weather.

My wife made shelves for the 2nd and 3rd bedroom closets; she installed them today. She is still applying polyurethane to the shelves for the linen closets and kitchen pantry. The polyurethane took longer to dry down in the cool basement than my wife expected.

When moving in, we discovered that the dryer's plug did not match the dryer outlet in the laundry room. The outlet uses the newer 4-wire jack that has a ground wire that is separate from the neutral. Tonight I replaced the dryer's existing 3-wire cord with a 4-wire cord.

I had to disconnect the green wire from the dryer chassis to prevent bonding the neutral to ground in the dryer. In our house, neutral is bonded to ground at the outside service panel. The electrical inspector made it a point to tell me to make sure that our inside panels do not bond ground to the neutral. The only place that ground should be bound to ground at our house is in the outside panel. I don't completely understand why.

The original dryer cord did not have a strain relief. A shortcut like this could burn down a house.

We took pains to recess the dryer vent connector in the wall so we could position the back of the dryer close to the wall. I'm not sure we actually accomplished anything by recessing the connector. If we could have put the vent connector centered on the dryer, we might have been able to push the dryer up against the wall. Unfortunately, we couldn't put the recessed connector where we wanted it due to other physical constraints.

We are in the same boat you are!
I'm only 100 miles away or so.
With that said we have about 11 inches on the ground as of last night but I've not been out today.

If the nuetral and ground are bonded elsewhere in the house besides the outside panel, you will have half the return current returning to the panel on the ground wire since the ground and neutral will be parallel paths back to the panel. Code does not allow any current on the ground except in a fault condition. Hopefully that made sense. I haven't had any coffee yet.

Obed, I'm going to go off on a small tangent here and look into this dryer plug thing. When using a 4 wire plug is it a requirement to tape off the ground as you have here? I installed one a while back and don't remember what I did with the chassis ground. I think I put it with the ground from the plug.
