Obed,
...
I know all of this is likely on the thread somewhere but I'm using my iPhone to answer....

I'm sure others will have more questions.
This will be a good start....

RT

What kind of well pump do you have?Size and volume.... Grundfos SP4" 10S15-21 4" 1.5 HP, 220 V, 4 cu. meter/hr (17.6 gpm) up to 450' deep.
What is the pressure tank size? 44 gal
What about the working pressure on the pump tank? Pump turns on at 40 PSI and turns off at 60 PSI
Where in relation to the pressure tank are the taps to the waterhoses? Well - 100' of 1" pipe - pressure tank in the basement - 200' of 1" pipe - garden spigot - 100' of water hose with 3 sprinklers hooked in series

How deep is your well? A little over 300'. Pump is set at 280' deep.
How far away from the house? 100'
What size water line from the well to the house? 1"
Does the line drop in size going to the faucets outside as compared to the in house fixtures? House has 3/4" copper piping running the length of the house with 1/2" piping running off the main line to the inside house fixtures.

Thanks,
Obed

Obed,
How many hose bibbs do you have outside?
Somehow I missed the fact that all three sprinklers in series.
I did what you did and someone explained what he called the parasitic effect divided hydraulic pressure reduction.
When I said English please...
He said you can't get the same pressure out three 1/2 pipes when you only feed it with a shared 1/2 inch feed in series...

I split mine from 3 faucets and wow! It worked!!

We don't sprinkle our current lawn in washington but in Wyoming we did. You don't specify what kind of sprinkler you have but 3 average sprinklers is going to drain the system. Also, IMO, you are way overwatering. In southern California we water twice a week for a half hour and that covers us well. Also, watering a lawn, IMO, outside of the 430 am to 630 am window is wasting water....

Everybody is saying the same thing I would - you need a timer. one for sprinklers and one for garden. Water the garden first thing at night after the last "wash of things inside the house" like 11pm. in middle of night set the sprinklers after couple hours or so to give the well time to replenish. Sometimes when we are in a drought situation and water table drops, we have to make do with what we got. Just spreading out the water usage will do it for you.

OBED you are drawing down the storage in the well a little over 1 gallon per foot if its 6"

at 17.6 gpm from the pump I think you are exceeding that flow with the sprinklers if they are the impulse ones I would set up one over a tarp on a hill and funnel it in to a 5 gallon bucket. and time it to see how much you are flowing at one time.

this rain bird link rain bird

might help to calculate flow

the key is the orifice size as to how much water is flowing

We are not watering the lawn, only the garden. We have 3 hose bib's around the house, one at the well, and one at the garden 200 ft from the house. We have 3 sprinklers in series in the garden hooked to the garden spigot. Watering the garden twice a day for 15 minutes does not appear to be over using the well. We have to remember to turn off the water though. We will get a timer if we can find one that will turn on for 15 minutes twice a day.

Eventually I plan to install a home automation system and will use it to control the watering of the garden. I just need infinite anoints of time for all my projects!

How are the tomatoes? tony
Tony,
They are doing fine. We have picked 5 or 6 so far.

This week we are hoping to get some sweet corn from a farmer from whom a family member has bought corn during previous years. My wife will cut it up, cream it, and freeze it.

Obed, what was the GPM and the static water level depth of your well when they drilled it?

You said it's a 300' well w/ pump @ 280, so in other words, how many feet of water is on top of the pump?

I just talked to the well driller yesterday. He is going to stop by and give me his "guestement" on depth for my location. We have all water witched the area with coat hangers and so far everyone gets a strong "hit" in the same general area of about a 20' circle. I had never done witching before, but there is a force present....whether it is underground water remains to be seen.
