Wow your girl is big!! i see her playing in the car in one of those pics!

Bet you will ahve that fire cranking tonight and tomorrow.
clemsonfor,
Our daughter will turn 4 years old soon. Can you believe it? Many of you guys remember that my wife was pregnant while we were building the house.

Yes, I'm sitting by a nice warm fire right now. It's 5 degrees F outside now and the temp is still dropping. The fireplace is keeping the whole house warm. I don't have next winter's wood supply cut so I hate burning the wood now. But I do enjoy the warm fireplace.

Hi Blackhammer,

Sorry for the delay in replying, but more impportantly, there is no need to apologize, but thanks for the feedback!

We have come to grips with it and it will be serviceable in the long run.

BTW, iour floor s at least 4" thick throughout, with thicker borders around the edges, and a thicker pad in the center of the overhead door in case I can ever afford a car lift.

Thanks again,
Thomas

First a little background on me. I am a licensed General contractor that has done concrete larger and smaller than yours for close to 15 years. The halogen light on the floor when dark will make a super flat floor FF 50's, FL 50's look horrible. Concrete is one of those things that you only have one chance to get it right. Pouring a 3" cap is asking for problems. I have had customers request a super flat floor, I give them a price to laser screed the floor, and they go with the cheapest price hoping the guy can deliver. You get what you pay for! Like others have said, pick and choose your battles. It seems that this is a battle you started to pursue and have come to a resolution. That's good. I have never heard of a contractor removing a slab after a structure has been built on it. Even in commercial high dollar projects, they make it work. Can't stop the production schedule! I am sorry that this has happened, but I have nothing positive to say. Good luck with the rest of your project, it is coming along.

After Christmas I finally got the leaves off the yard at the rental house. For the previousmonth, every weekend was too wet for raking leaves. I had to rake the front yard by hand which took most of a day. I raked the leaves onto a tarp and dragged them to a pile in the back yard.

The house is surrounded by monkey grass which liked collect leaves.

I was able to mow/blow the leaves in the back year using my lawnmower. The back yard only took a couple hours using the mower.

Here's the pile in the back yard. Notice there's a munchkin in the pile.

Read your thread and enjoyed it very much!! Good to have so many people give advice...

Something that you need is a "flap disc" for your 4 1/2" grinder.... I use one to sharpen lawn mower blades and clean/prep metal for welding. They cost around 4-8 bucks and you can find them at most stores.

I am interested to see what will happen next- in your thread. I am curious to know how far your 'natural pond is from your home', is it spring fed?

thats a lot of leaves!! Can barely see her!
clemsonfor,
Yes there are. I've decided that the ideal rental house would not have a lot of trees. I made a tremendous effort to minimize/avoid raking leaves at the house we built. Then I bought a rental house that requires raking leaves. Go figure.

At the end of December I was finally able to mow the leaves off our lawn. This method sure beats a rake.

drajj5,
Welcome to the thread. The pond is about 1000 feet from the house. It is spring fed. If things ever got real bad, it would be our source of water. Unfortunately, 1000 ft up a hill is a tough way to carry water. The pond has stayed wet the last couple years. But it did dry up the first summer we owned it when this area had one of the most extended draughts in recent history.
