ATI\'s JD-9 FEL SSL adapter?

Has anyone out there purchased and used ATI's QA-JD9 SSL adapter on the older John Deere model 48 loader?

This is ATI's custom order skid steer loader adapter plate that converts the 3-pin pin on style John Deere model 48 loader bucket attachment layout to a modern skid steer loader attachment layout.

My end goal is that I would like to replace the original 5' factory bucket on my older model 48 loader with a 6' 6" wide bucket so that it will completely cover the rear tires on my JD 1020 tractor. The model 48 loader lift capacity is rated at 2400 lbs, so I should have no problem handling the wider bucket.

As it turns out, ATI can build me a custom pin on replacement 6' 6" bucket designed to the original JD specs for the model 48 loader. The price for this pin on bucket is about $1200 plus shipping.

The problem with buying a new pin-on bucket is that, well, it is a pin on bucket. And, since I'm talking about a 30+ year old FEL, there are NO other pin on attachments like a snow plow or pallet fork or grapple or whatever available for it.

However, if I purchase the QA-JD9 SSL adapter, I can now purchase anyones 6' 6" wide SSL bucket as well as purchase or rent all kinds of different FEL attachments designed to work on skid steer loaders.

Unfortunately, the price for the QA-JD9 adapter is $1300 plus shipping since it is a non stock, custom build item. That is why I was hoping to find other people who have already purchased one to see how they like it.

BTW, if you don't have specific experience with the QA-JD9 SSL adapter but do have experience with any of the many other ATI built SSL adapters, I'd also appreciate any feedback on those adapters as well.

Re: ATI\'s JD-9 FEL SSL adapter?

I have an ATI Tach-All. It sounds a little smaller than yours. It is for the standard JD CUT quick attachment system as found on my 430 loader (two horizontal bars up and two pins down). It has been a very handy piece of gear. I sold my skid steer not long after I bought my tractor, and the Tach-All has allowed me to keep and use many of my skid steer attachments. It is well built and does exactly what it proposes to do. The fit on the JD is perfect, as is the fit to the skid steer attachments.

ATI is a little annoying to do business with. You have to buy through a dealer, even if there is not one in your area. I had my JD dealer buy it and sell it to me. I understand supporting dealers, but ATI needs to get a grip on the fact that this is the 21st century, and direct sales make sense when dealers aren't available.

Re: ATI\'s JD-9 FEL SSL adapter?

bam747,

I spoke to ATI about 2 years ago about getting a quick attach for a Case Model 60 loader. I got the same answer you got. I can not remember the exact price, but I do remember it was over $1,000. I felt that was too much for me. I ended up buying a quick attach from a local dealer that did not fit any of the current machines. I modified it to fit my loader. I have approx $200 into it. I would check out www.horstwelding.com and look at their adapters. They have a skid steer style. I do not think they had these out when I did mine. All the local dealers sell the Horst products. They are very well built and they will custom build stuff. You may want to look at their buckets also. I am very happy with my quick attach, but in hindsight I think going to the current JD style quick attach would have been cheaper and easier. There are plenty of attachments sold with the JD style attachment. The JD style adds very little weight and you can build or buy the brackets to add onto any attachments you already own. Just my 2 cents.

Good luck,
Russ
