I am 6'1'' tall medium frame was at 191,I am 46 years old. I thought man time to do something about this.5 weeks later down to 174(170-165 and I will be happy).
I cut the carbohydrates way down by going to this diet.Second time I ever dieted in my life,1st time I just starved it off,the Atkins plan makes it so much easier to loose weight, you can eat,but just watch the carbs.I drink lots of water. The pounds really come off on the hot days running a chainsaw or any type of outside work, drinking lots of good cold water and watching the amount of carb intake.

Me too, CountryBoy! I've been on it since June 1st and have lost 25#. I actually have a waistline instead of a girth. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Like you, I found that physical activity is an essential part of the diet. Good luck in reaching your goal!

Atkins is the BEST!

I went on the diet about 4 months ago -- I lost 25 pounds in about 7 weeks and now am on the maint. phase. I do eat a fair share of carbs now, but I don't overdue it like I used to and I have maintained my same weight for the past 2 months.

The hard part about Atkins is getting through the induction phase (1st two weeks). I say days 3-10 are the hardest. Once you 'kick the habit' for craving carbs, you are home free.

So far I've lost 18 lbs on it. I've got another twenty or so to go. Last September when I quit smoking I racked the pounds on like there was no tomorrow. So now I'm taking them back off again.

Yes the weight gain is a given when quitting smoking. So I was prepared that once I got over that hump of smoking (cravings) I would take it back off again.

A few months ago I started on a regular diet of cutting back on everything and drinking a slim fast for lunch. Well that worked for about two or three weeks then the starving set in. It just wasn't working. I ended up worse off then when I started that diet. Quite a different story on the Adkins. Simple to follow, cept when the mrs brings home fresh Crispy Creame dounuts. Now that will make me do a double take. But I didn't eat a single dounut. Willpower!

So if I can quit smoking so can any one else!!!

Atkins works well, I lost 20 pounds but am now on Weight Watchers. I find the Weight Watchers better for me. I like the food choices better.

There is a big fight currently underway in the diabetic community about the efficy of this diet. Carbs are just sugars chained together.

Good to know that there are some of my tractor buddies that are having the same results/success. One thing I have learned it is not so much as how much you it but it is WHAT you eat. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I tried the Weight Watchers thing, but it seemed like every time I got slammed at work I'd run to the vending machines and wolf down the first thing I found. So WW for me was a yo-yo. With Atkins, after a couple of weeks the smell of sugary food made me ill, and the couple of times I cheated by sneaking some cheesecake left me nauseated for hours! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

So with Atkins, I can't cheat!

CountryBoy,

I'm on the diet as are my parents and many people at work.

I'm loosing wieght but not as much as others. I don't need to
loose much 20 pounds at the most but I have not been able
to loose the weight through excercise. With my parents on
the diet and everyone at work it just pushed me over the edge
to try the diet.

I heard an interview on the Peoples Pharmacy about the diet
a few months ago. The hosts where very sceptical and
grilled the Dr being interviewed, so to speak. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif He is at
Duke and the health side affects that I was worried about
dont' happen.

So I figured what the heck, I'll try.

I have a few problems on the diet. I really don't like to eat
meat that much. My first week I ate more steak than I had
in the previous year. It did take me awhile to figure out what
I could eat and what I could not eat. My first week of
induction was a failure when I mistakenly ate some stuff I
should not have....

Besides all the meat, my biggest issue is coffee and beer. I
cut my two beers a night back to one which is more the I
should have on Atkins. And my coffee I was/is/are still adding
sugar. I finally got a new box of sugar and I saw how many
carbs I was getting if I drank all my coffee, which I seldom do
when I'm on Atkins, but it would meet/exceed the 20g per
day. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif The wife is trying to pick up the sugar substitute
for me today.

A guy at work started last week and in his first week he lost 6
pounds. Another guy has been dropping 20 pounds a month.
My dad is in that range with my mom a bit lower.

I'm loosing about 1.5 to 2 pounds a week with my beer and
coffee routine so I really can complain.

The other problem I have is I eat 2-4 "energy" bars when I'm
working on the property. With all of the rain I have not been
able to work out there in a month so this has not been a big
issue but when I get back out there it will be. I can work all
day on those bars and I don't think Slims Jims are going to
work the same. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The thing I have noticed as have my parents is that Walley
World can't keep the low carb bars/drinks on the shelf. That
tells me that there are lots of people doing Atkins. If Walley
World can't keep the shelves full they are really selling the
stuff....

The diet works. But I can't wait to get back to my normal
diet. The one thing I have learned is to watch the carbs and
portions. We eat lots of rice and pasta. I have already cut
back what the family eats. We have lots of veggies to eat
anyway we just have to cut back on the carbs...

Later,
Dan

Beer, rice, pasta, coffee w/sugar -- Dan, I'm sorry to inform you this, but you really aren't on the Atkins Diet. You MUST stay below 20g of carbs a day in the first 2 weeks to get the kitosis to kick in, anything more than that and you are cheating yourself out of some honest to good weight loss!

One beer exceeds your daily limit. Have whiskey, vodka or gin -- they are ZERO carbs. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
