GatorBoy,

I did give up the pasta and rice. Its killing me but I gave it
up. I'm making smaller portions for the family though. Just
not me.... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I know that beer is heavy in carbs especially the beer I LIKE!!
/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The wifey bought me some dark beers which did not
help either! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Hopefully she got my favorite today and
no more dark beers for awhile! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On the other hand, if I was loosing 5 pounds a week, I would
be done in a month. Then I would be depriving myself of all
of this meat...... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I really don't like all this meat to eat. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I want my rice and pasta!!!!!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm down 8 pounds, 12 more to go and I can eat SOME pasta
and rice again. But not like I used to... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Later,
Dan

This brings up a question that I need to have answered . . . does this low-carb diet leave you with any energy? The reason I ask is because I am always drained, fatigued, tired, whatever - especially after lunch. And I am a carb-oholic, no questions about it. But the bigger problem is that I do not need to lose any weight. I am at the low-end of my weight range. I swear that many times I just want to scream when I continually hear of people taking off the weight and gaining tons of energy. Weightloss is not an option for me. I know the main problem is my diet, and the amount of carbs I take in during the day.

Brooster -- The extra energy I feel from this diet was the biggest and most welcome surprise for me. I used to live on caffeine and sugar. Coffee and a donut at 6am. Sugar rush. Crash by 9am. A Hostess apple pie and more coffee. Sugar rush. Crash by 11am. And on and on throughout the day with the rushes ending more quickly and the sleepiness wearing me down by 3pm.

I started Atkins to lose weight, but getting rid of the sugars really turned my energy level around. I get up at five and am rarin' to go. Sometimes around 3pm I yawn once or twice, but when I get home at 5pm I still have lots of energy for chores, tractoring, playing with the dogs, puttering in the shop. Heck, I've even started doing the dishes and the ironing! Then at 9pm I lay down with a book and within 15 minutes I'm asleep.

Get the book and read it. If weight loss is not your thing, maybe cut your induction phase short and go right into maintenance with just enough carbs so you don't loose weight, but not so many that you have highs and lows.

Brooster,
I feel great all through this diet.Plenty of energy.
stopped at Subway today, instead of my favorite sub I had all of the ingridiants of the sub in a salad(bread has too many carbs)
I eat bacon/hamburgers with cheese/sausage and eggs (no bread)/hot sausage/salad without carrots.Cannot have any juices/or pop,if you like pop you have to drink a diet pop,I prefer bottled water (Dansa ).
Do not over eat, just until you are comfortably full.
The induction period is a 20 carb max per day.

I bought the Atkins diet paperback book from Walmart
The low carbs is the key of this diet.

Three months ago I started the Aitkins. I was 285 and now I am 242. Yes that is 43 pounds. I have dropped two pants sizes, had to get a new belt and now the belt I have dropped 6 notches and I will have to notch it some. Yes I miss some of the foods I had before but I just got back from my two year physical. My cholestrol went up 3 overall points, but the ratio is better, but the big thing for me and especially because of the diabetes in the family was my blood sugar dropped by a bunch. The doctor is amazed. But I also found that my weight dropped the most when I worked out. Did some good ole walking mostly. I have about 40 more lbs to go before I am going to be happy with my weight. I feel really great right now, I can walk up most steps around my house without stopping midway to catch my breath.

This diet has intrested me for a while, not that I really need it but my wife was intrested. Several people
we know have had the same results as my here have had. Readers Digest had an article about a month
back about carbs. and the amount of sugar in different types of carb. rich foods. It was intresting to see
as the sugar index in different foods, a donut was lower in sugar index than a bagel was.

Our family doctor is also a personal freind I asked him what he thought of the Atkins diet. His first responce
was one of we will have to wait and see what healt effects this has in the long run. I thought that being
over weight has more long term health effects. Then he told me of a patient who went on the diet on his
own starting out at 270 lbs. This man in his mid 40's was being treated for diabeties taking 176 units of
insulin several times a day. After about one month he lost more than 35 pounds and lowered his insulim
need to 16 units. That has to tell you something.

A man I work with is on a diet with very few carbs and high protien. He takes bee pollen which is mostly
pure protien as a energy booster as well as for general overall well-being. My wife and I have been using
bee pollen for about 3 weeks now and I notice a big difference in the enegry I have now. We have both
cut out the heavy carbs. bagels, pastry, and cut down on breads. As with any food some people could
have a reaction so a small test is wise.

There are many natural foods out there which will help some people more than others, I never thought I'd
say this. For those who have lost weight keep up the good work.

The Atkins diet was developed over 30 years ago -- I think any ill effects of the diet would have surfaced by now.

Too bad it was after his death that his diet has been pretty much given the OK by many medical journals.
