Cowboydoc, what you are saying reminds me, of a couple of men I have know over the years. One was in his 50s, his wife left him and he lost everything he had, so he became a drunk. This was when he was younger, and he got to drinking a fifth of whiskey a day. He made foreman at Fruehaufs a couple of times, but then would go on a long drunk, and of course they would fire him. He was one of the best welders and metal workers I have ever seen. He still held some good jobs, last I knew, because of what he could do. Then I knew an other fellow, that told me he couldn't drink. He got a job at a distillery, and didn't drink at the time he went there. But the other guys all drank a few beers at lunch, so he started to. Pretty soon he was drinking the beer, instead of eating. He got sick, and the Dr. told him, if he didn't quit drinking he would die. He said but I haven't been drinking very long, or all the time. But the Dr told him its all in the person, some can and some can't he was one of the ones that couldn't and live. And yes I agree with you, the people that are against the Atkins diet, are in general the people that don't really understand it. Haven't read all the books he wrote on it and know just what he is saying. Or maybe they don't want to quit going down to the local fast food joint, which he is against, and of course so is most Drs for that matter. Like I have said before, this country or anyother for that matter, didn't have the bad heart problems till they got on the high sugar diets we are on now. A friend, who died of a heart problem, his daughter told me last night on an email, that three of her brothers are haveing serious heart problems and one of them will be lucky to make it 5 more years.
