Interesting.. Never thought of the idea of getting a road worthy trailer that a ATV could pull. That sounds like a great idea. I always thought an ATV trailer would be small but I guess it will pull quite a bit.

Wonder if you could switch out the hub or use an adapter and put ATV tires
on it???

Why would you want to switch to ATV tires? The trailer tires (even the 8s and 10s) have MUCH greater capacity
vs. the 5psi flotation tires that come with your quad. Cost less, too, usually. You probably could mount
an ATV tire on the trailer wheel, if you really wanted to go in that direction.

Note that there are 6 or seven common ATV wheel stud configurations, while many of these trailers are 4/4.5".
ATV wheels are usually 4/110, 4/115, 4/130, 4/137, 4/140, 4/156, etc.

This old trailer is one of the earlier Home Depot units, made in Taiwan in the early 90s. It tows very well on the
highway, as well as behind an ATV.

I have had a few of those crappy off-road ATV dump trailers (Agri-Fab and others) and they are lousy, even
after you convert the pin hitch to ball hitch.

I was thinking traction mainly - the ATV style tire offers much more traction (straight line and side) in off road situations as well as better floatation. Capacity on that small of a trailer is not a big issue for most things I personally am towing off road as it is too rough for anything to be pulling it other than an ATV/SxS/Etc. I have an ATVWAGON dump trailer with duel wheels and it tracks extremely well and brakes much better then the smooth tire carts you commonly see. I would like a little flat bed trailer for moving my Gravely around and sometimes taking my zero turn from my house to my friends farm.

You sure are right on price - those "nice" ATV tires are getting really pricey!

Xfaxman, what would I call that type of trailer? Excuse my ignorance but if I went looking for a trailer that could do what you do with it what would I be looking for - size, capacity; weight of trailer.

One more question: Few companies make dedicated 2 UP machines. I saw the Can Am Max Outlander and wow it is awesome. But I can't find a decent used one listed for less than 6.5-7k here. Seems to be a decent supply of used Honda Foremans and Yamaha Grizzly and Kodiaks 450-500 CC. How would I fare with an aftermarket 2 UP seat.

It won't be extensively ridden on rough trails I don't think with two people. Logging roads etc. Would it be fine to carry a hunting buddy? I'm 190 lb and he's 225. I'm 5'6" (yeah I know I've got weight to lose) he's about 6'. I don't care about supreme comfort for him LOL! Just utility. If my wife were to ride the. I'd get a real 2UP.

Thoughts?

A couple of thoughts.

First, if you will be using the machine at higher elevations, I'd recommend getting one with fuel injection. While a lot of carburetor engines with stock jetting will do okay at higher altitudes, you don't want to find out the hard way that you bought one that doesn't. Check with your friends or their input on this, as it may not be necessary to rejet for where you are planning to hunt or ride.

Second, one of the reasons most atv's are only recommended for solo riding is that they can be flipped over backwards when going up steep inclines with the weight of a second passenger on the rear. When we ride double on atv's, I always stand up on the pegs and lean over the bars to get more weight to the front end and have my passenger lean forward. Good communication with your passenger will soon make this a nearly automatic response-when you stand up, your passenger leans forward so you both stay safer.

We've got an older Yamaha Bear at the farm for spot spraying weeds, but bought a John Deere XUV 825i for the farm in 2012 and like it so much that we just bought another 825i with full deluxe cab and doors. Great
machines for what we need around the farm and homestead-my Bride has probably used it as much as me! And it is very relaxing to ride side by side with your passenger with a utv.

But if I was looking for one machine on a budget, I'd look for a Yamaha Rhino or the smaller Kawasaki Mule utv's which are easier to find used and typically are less expensive than the John Deere RSX 550 which is fairly new to the market. And will second staying away from machines with performance modifications.

Good luck with your decision.

This one is a Big Tex 60TP Single Axle Pan Tilt Transport , rated heavier than I needed, at 6K, but I needed the width. I think it weighs about 1700 pounds.

I bought it about 7 years ago to haul a 6' deck mower, over to mow my MIL's place.

It is so nice not to mess with ramps! :D

There are other brands of single axle tilt trailers that are narrower.

Here is one:http://www.dktrailers.com/trailers/Tilt Deck Trailers/index.htm

Get a used Yamaha Rhino or a new Polaris 400 Ranger if you wanna ride two people. You guys are too heavy to double up on a single seat quad.

Plus the UTV is much more versatile and can be used for a number of chores. Remember the rhino diff is locked all the time which will rip the yard to shreds.

Utility ATV General Use Trailers
I have a bx trailer for my quad and it's the bees knees for a road trailer you can use off road IMO. On mostly level ground you can easily move a 1000lbs load with an ATV as well.
