I havent seen anyone talk about atvs on here yet. I have three of them and they sure are fun and come in handy alot. But then theres the other people who have them too, my driveway is on a highway, and so many atvs ride the ditches and cross over my gravel driveway and make these ruts and I'm getting mad. I have to fix the driveway like once a week. The only thing is its legal to ride the ditches and that means they can cross my driveway. But I like atvs a whole lot its just those people that have to go fast and look for mud that I dont like.

I agree I don't see how it can be legal to ride on someone's property. It's the same way here. We maintain our highway frontage and our problem is more with snowmobilers. They just destroy the ground when there's not enough snow. Not to mention that if the kids our out front playing they'll come out of nowhere jump the driveways. Last year the girls were sledding down the little hill that the ditch makes and some idiot jumped our driveway and came about a foot from landing on them. To say the least they don't play there anymore. What's even more frustrating is that I have to pay taxes on that ground. I figured it up and we have almost three acres of frontage that is legal to ride on and we have to maintain. I sent this in with my last tax bill and they didn't seem to think too much of it. So yes I can definitely agree with you here.

Its one of the most stupid things. Where they drive up on to the driveway theres a like a three foot hill and they have fun on that. And they throw rocks out of my driveway so I have to rake them back in to place. It Really P's us off.

I can understand your concern.

How about a few 6 inch steel posts one either side at the end of your driveway.
Set them in the ground about 3-4' and fill with concrete.
You could space them just wide enough for walking, and perhaps horse riding, but to close for ATVs.

Just a though. Could also be a great way to justify a 3-point auger. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Its really not that big of a deal and I would get in trouble by the county for doing that. Besides I'm moving soon anyway.

Yep Plower is right. I put up a snow fence to stop them and the very next day the county came and made me take it out. You can't do anything within 25 feet of the road here at all. Of course you have to maintain it and pay taxes on it but you can't use it.

Thats exactly right we cant do anything with it except mow it and take care of it.

Sounds to me like ya'll should send the local gov a bill for doing their job...Bet that would get some laughs.Were I used to live a short while ago.WE had a couple of kids ridding thier dirt bike on the local rd.Doing evry bit of 60mph on a 35mph rd.Then all of a sudden they slowed way down and got real polite.I found out later that a local sherrif lived in the area and he pulled them over...Appairently the threat of impounding thier bikes and finnig them and most of all hualing them in so thier parents could come pick them up and pay the fine was more than enough threat.Ive heard that here in Bama you can ride pretty much any vehicle on the rural roads as long as you don't go over 35mph and you obay all traffic laws including using hand signals....for short distance trips...I don't now if it's actually legal or just the law being curtious.
But have done it on many occasions with no complaints with dirt bikes and ATVs going from the house to the local trails.Ridding on the shoulder is not something you see often here.There isn't enough to ride on more often than not or its to steep...And no you can't put any obejct near the road that could do harm to any one.Even the mail box can only be so rigid...Have you asked if you could put up a couple of wood post and mark them with HIGH vis reflectors.Somethong like that would easily nock down if hit by a car?Even maybe moving the mail box in thier way.Though I doubt that would be fun to replace. if ya'll have snow plows...Here if the snow needs plowed we stay home and watch it melt....

one more short note.If enough folks get together the laws can get changed or modified.Mabye make them slow down and stop hopping the drive ways...atleast...Unfortunatley it usually takes some one getting hurt.

Guys,

I guess I can't relate. My property borders ~ 0.5 miles of county road and my fences run right up to the edge of the road. Granted its not much of a road.
People around here ride the ATVs up and down the road. But then again last time I was working on that fence line I did not see one car pass in about an hours time. In some ways it pays to live in the sticks. But then again the 8 miles worth of rough dirt road to get to a one horse town is the price.
