Hi all

Audie Murphy, most decorated in WW II. I just visited a web site with lots of info. It's worth a visit. To me interesting info. One thing that surprised me is he must have joined the Army when he was 16. He was born in 1924 and might still be alive today if he didn't die in a plane crash back home. His grave at Arlington Cemetary is 2nd most visited. First visited is JFK grave. He was a good actor too.

Memorial Day will soon be here. Sometime, we just have to pause and think.

Mornin Coffeman,
One of my favorite early movies was the Dirty Dozen with Lee Marvin, another war hero !

I saw that email going around naming many famous movie stars as WWII heroes. Mr Rodgers (I think) was a Navy Seal during the War I believe. It named many like Clark Gable, Audie Murphy and I can't remember them all, but it would surprise you. There is a story Lee Marvin tells about how brave his Marine Corps drill Sergeant was who saved his life and many others at Iwo Jima. He turned out to be Captain Kangaroo!

There are several emails making the rounds 3RRL. I believe if you check out snoops.com, you will find that the claim of Mr. Rogers being a Navy SEAL to be false.....;)

I always check snopes when I get those e mails, the Captian Kangaroo one is false also.

Well see, aren't a dumb ***! I never check Snopes. I guess I'm too trusting of a person. Why would anybody send false emails like that? I hate that.

I think we can add Jimmy Stewart

I think we can include the old gentleman setting two seats away in church, two seats back, maybe the usher or the guy next door... Real heros that we only read about when they are gone! Sad way to learn but I understand why they don't want to talk about it.

I'm still on active duty (22 years) and everytime some older gent walks up to me when I'm in uniform and thanks me for my service, I say thanks and immediately ask them if they've served. They almost invariably respond "Yes" at which point I thank them for their service and point out that I couldn't be where I am today without them having been where they were in uniform 20, 40, or 60 years ago. I'm able to keep their grandkids safe because they kept my parents safe.

I also make a special point of thanking their wives in front of them and pointing out that wives and mothers have a much harder job of keeping the world going why we're off at war.
