Auto Throttle

Seems like it would not be too difficult to add some linkage to a hydrostat to accomplish the auto throttle advance at least in the forward direction. My concern, however, would be whether the throttle linkage into the pump would wear prematurely.

I really thought someone would have invented a kit to convert the standard hst into the auto-throttle feature. Should be simple.

I read a little about the Kubota version and got the impression it would maintain a set RPM no matter the load. Interesting concept either way. I personally don't see a use for it for what I do. Hopefully someone who has or used the feature or can weigh in with its purpose.

My 580CK Case TLB had such a feature (i.e. both a foot and hand throttle). Handy, but infrequently used.

My 2555HST does not have such an arrangement. It does, however, have Cruise Control and Load Sense. I use both of these features when I am snow-blowing. It's an Erskine 73" loader-mount w/3-pt PTO Hydraulic power plant. I set the cruise control to an appropriate speed for the amount of snow, then engage the Load Sense. If I hit a deep section, the tractor speed is decreased just enough to maintain the RPM speed. When I'm out of the deep stuff, the tractor automatically returns to the set cruise speed. Really helpful!!!

My 2555 also has cruise/load sense/and HST response switch. I tried all of them once, just like the radio. Probably never use them. I have cruise on my 2011 5035 , and used it just once, too... Not that I am unhappy they are there, but I don't really need them. Just like OnStar and Sirus on my new truck....

With Mahindra, anything 50hp and up has load sensing, which prevents the tractor from stalling while still maintaining forward motion. Believe it or not its more of an EPA thing.

We sell Mahindra as well as other brands. The newest Branson 15/20/25 series have this feature that links the throttle with the pedal. I think they call it the Hydro-Max. I know other brands have it as well, although not Mahindra at this point. I find this feature to be really nice, enough so that I can't see why all HST aren't built this way. I don't see a downside, other than cost.

When the Branson rep told me this feature was coming, I yawned. Then I drove one...pretty cool.

I have a L4060 Kub and the auto throttle essentially makes it drive like an automatic car. Step on the forward pedal, engine RPMs come up, tractor goes the direction of the pedal. Doesn't matter how much is the bucket or what your pulling. Again simplest analogy is a car with an automatic trans, except there's a pedal for reverse so you don't have to shift into R.
Kub also has a feature called stall guard on its auto throttle that will rev the engine so that you cant kill it. These features work excellent if your doing constant back/fwd with lift and load.
AT is programmable through the screen for how quick it responds and how high max RPM is. Also has cruise control that is set to cover ground at a constant speed. Hand throttle as well.

Massey has it on some of the higher end compacts like the 1700 series. I don't know about Branson but on Masseys it's adjustable.
It seems like it'd be nice for loader work, so the engine's not revving all the time. They also call it stall guard.
