Is it possible to have a gas powered lawn mower engine start itself via its electric starter and charge its own battery at a pre determined point of battery discharge
In other words I want to keep a battery that I use to run a pump charged to a safe level versus discharge it to a point of damaging the battery.
Lawn mower engines are affordable
If I could have something monitor the battery and recharge at a safe point than I will have accomplished what I need to have happen

Cheaper and more effective to use a battery maintainer if power is available, if not then use a solar battery maintainer. Besides using a small gas engine means keeping up with the fuel and oil which to me is no different than manually checking the battery.

It certainly can be done. I'd expect that reliability would be a driving cost.

So you are running a pump heavily and the only power is battery?

Might a small generator be a better starting point? That would give you the motor and generating piece of it. The monitor/trigger part might be tougher, but you could deal with some of the things Lou listed above, perhaps. Maybe more serious solar with batteries would be a solution?
