That helps me a bunch, JC. I wasn't sure if that was a return port or not.

Hey Mark,

That's good. I read the attachment. They also call it a service port for the purpose of using a gauge. I actually was in TSC and got some hyd hose to try it out. I'd probably put a tee there to be able to plumb one side for aux hyd port and then use the other along with the existing plug as a port to attach a gauge to. Putting the lift handle in the top notch means that is maybe one way of them keeping the functions separate. I was thinking of building a wood splitter and would be just about a perfect set up. Let me know what you come up with. I'm pretty interested. Wondered my manual or IT does not mention that the port can be utilized for an external cylinder.

That is a good idea JC to put a tee inline for a gauge. I am going to try this and see what happens. I will be sure a post my results. I think it will be the best thing since sliced bread if it works!

That's stretching a bit Mark :D:D:D I'll say that'll be the simplest, most utilitarian PB you ever saw:thumbsup:

It works! Here are some photos of the finished project. I did away with the 3PH hardware, also the self contained pump and reservoir. Now all I've got to do is put a swivel base on the seat. I will say that the hoe seems to be just a little less powerful than when it was running off the self contained pump. Probably the old tractor needs a new hyd pump.

Here are some more pics of the subframe I built and how it mounts. Looks kind of goofy, buy it don't rattle, and it's easy to "hitch" up.

Cool Mark, glad it worked. Now share the sequence you use to make it work. Do you have to keep your lift arm at it's highest position ? Waht happens when you manipulate lift arm position and what effect does it have on the back hoe. I was thinking without any implement on the 3 point use the pressure and return side to run a log splitter. Do you have a bill of material for the part you got? basically size and specs. did you use 3/8" hose or 1/2" hyd hose?

Well, if you want to use the hoe, first you unpin and remove the lift arms and leveling box (mine has the same size pins everywhere). Then you back up over the backhoe subframe. Once you get close enough, you connect the hydraulic hoses so you can use the hoe itself to tilt/lower the front of the subframe onto the trailer balls. Yeah, I used trailer couplers to mount it to the tractor. They work great. Once the couplers are attached to the FEL bracket, you simply raise the rear of the hoe and pin it to the top link support bracket.
Now, to energize the hydraulic circuit, you just raise the 3ph control to the upper most notch. The upper arms will lift until in the full up position, then the circuit will be charged. If you lower the control handle to any position below the top notch, the hoe stops working.
All I had to buy was 2 sets of 3/8" hyd quick connects, with nipples to thread right into the 3/8" aux ports. I used 2 elbows that went from 3/8 to 1/2 because my hoses were 1/2 inch. I also had to buy a shorter hose for the return side. The original was 30" and I just needed a 20" since I moved it closer to the tractor.
A log splitter would be easy to run off this setup on the rear. You could even skip buying an extra control for the splitter if you had a spring to return the cylinder to the collapsed position, just use the lift control to extend it.

That's a great revelation. I'm thinking all kind of possibilities now since we have the proof positive. I did go and buy a 2 ft section of 3/8" hyd pipe from TSC and the fitting is a bit small when after I took the plug off the head to test. Made one quick call to my NH local person and she was not able to give me the size of the nut. I took the plug with me to take it to our local ACE hardware and has a really a good selection. The thread pitch is smaller ,finer and a bit bigger in dia. I have a tap and die set that could use it to figure our the size . Have not had chance yet. The port on mine most likely is a metric one. My hyd gauge fits in there perfectly. I need to spend a bit of time to figure it out but was waiting to see what you come up with.

Thanks,
JC,
