I am considering purchasing a used truck and someone suggested I check the average miles per hour by checking the engine hours and dividing the actual miles on the truck.

I looked at my current truck and it works out to 35.33 mph. (71,225 miles / 2016 engine hours)

I'm curious to see what others average?

What is yours?

I have 33,800 miles and 801 hours. So 42.19 mph for me.

I'm right with you. Not in town today but the last dozen vehicles or so that I have owned have had the capability to track hours and all worked out between 35 and 40 mph.

Haven't looked at exact numbers lately but my F250 is averaging about 50 mph.

You would need to know how the truck had been used previously. When I used to drive job to job checking on my crews, the truck didn't shut off until lunch, then when back at the house. Most of the driving between jobs was at or close to highway speed's but divided by the hours gave me a very low MPH average.
Service records are what I'd want to see if they were available.

Sounds like my work truck. I've put 65,000 miles on over the last 11 months, mostly all highway and/or interstate, but also lists idle hours. I'm at like 20% idle time or so I think. We get oil changed every 5,000 miles;

For this thread, I'm more interested in what everyone's average MPH is, and not what the truck I'm considering has done.

We have a 2013 Ram with Cummins, 16,000 miles, checked yesterday and it says average mph is 29.

I average about 45 mph on my truck, but I feel like its either running on the highway or shut off. I try not to idle it much due to wear and tear, but also fuel saving. Maybe I drive really slow? My previous truck averaged out the same with the same driving habits, so I'm confident in the numbers.

212,814miles/5082hrs = 41.88mph avg.
