AVG Virus Protection-No Longer Free

Right now, I am trying to get my blood pressure down. I never thought that a program could mess up your computer so throughly! Can't make the Smilies work, so just thing of these ****************** as the angry one!!

When I move my mouse over the smilies, any of the icons over the white box area, or anywhere else in the post reply section, nothing works. I know the code : D for the green smilie, and I can type it in

and it will work that way, but I can't just click on them to automatically put them in. It is a royal pain when things change and you have no idea why. It has to be something that has disabled the features of websites, but I have no idea where to look.

I'll second using AVG for some years, it really works....

Norton screwed me around one to many times.

Once you have run Norton it's near impossible to remove. For some recent versions of NAV (and maybe the current one) their un-installer leaves behind something that complains about files not found.

You have to get a special file from them to complete the removal. Google on 'remove Norton Antivirus' etc for more info.

I just went through this on an old Win98/NAV2003 laptop. I replaced NAV with AVG, and that antique seems to run faster now.

It couldn't be something simple like the option 'Disable smilies in text' checked?

Seems like I had the same problem when TBN first switched over to the new software but don't remember for sure.

It might also be a change to your TBN 'Post' settings. On TBN go to My Home/Edit Options, scroll to bottom, see if Message Editor Interface shows 'Standard Editor'. If that won't fix it, then it must be local.

I can't believe it has only been a little over a month since I removed Norton and installed AVG. Seems a lot longer than that. Anyway, AVG seems to be working well. It doesn't hog resources like Norton did. It updates silently in the background, something Norton wouldn't always do. It is scanning e-mails sent and received another thing Norton stopped doing mysteriously. I can honestly say I don't miss Norton at all and this from someone who's been using it since 1997. I haven't had a virus in a long time, but I do know that if Norton ever detected anything, it wouldn't delete it anyway. The last Norton I had was Norton Antivirus 2004. It was suppose to scan for spyware, too, but hardly did an acceptable job of it. As I said above, if it did find anything it wouldn't delete it anyway. Strangely enough, Spybot and Ad-aware can delete the same item oddly enough.
