I was looking in Motor Trend magazine last night, they compared the Ford, GMC and Dodge (all Diesels). If your'e looking for a truck, this would make for some good reading! If you were to decide on a Ford though, I'd wait til the 05's come out next month, it's a new body style!

The Ford Powerstroke had the fastest 1/4mile and 0-60 times! But with all the aftermarket stuff out there, they all end up running the same.

Ahhh... you recognized the slang for Pontiac /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Don't have one now.... in the market for one to build into bracket car. Just sold a complete 400 I was building with all premium stuff... will buy a Big Chief big block aftermarket Pontiac in the future. I remember the pic of your Goat... no decision to me... it's definately a keeper!

In a drag race, the Ford should have a upper hand coming out of te hole. Standard gear for Dodge is 3.55's, Ford is 3.73, yes? That little bit is noticeable if you're going for a hole-shot.

Get the Mopar with 4.10', and it will really launch out of the hole.

That difference in standard gears is propbably part of the reason the Cummins has tended towards better mileage, although the Ford/PS has never been way behind...

I have always been a Ford pickup fan. I REALLY like my Dodge though... I had an '80 F250 4x4 with a 400/auto(gutless Calif smogger motor), and then an '89 F250 4x4 xcab 351/stick. The '89 was a great truck.

Having driven a bunch, I still think Ford has a top notch pickup in the F250 line. I've had a few older ones, and have driven some of the newer ones in diesel. The Ford/PS is a great truck, but Dodge has really upped the ante in the last few years. Used to be, IMHO, the Ford was the better truck, independant of engine type. Now, I would not say that; the playing field is pretty level.

For an ultimate truck, I think a Ford F250 with a Cummins motor would be an awesome combination, IMHO better than the Powerstroke. The Power Stroke is a pretty good engine, the 7.3 or the new one. The Cummins is a better motor, built for industiral use. Look at the pictures of the two engines internal parts side by side.

What really has things going for Ford locally here, is the availability of work trucks right off the lot. GM/Mopar do not have that around here. You can go to multiple Ford dealers in the greater Sacramento area and find F250/350/450 in flat bed, utility bed ect, right off the lot.

Robert, after checking into the Dodge, it comes standard with 3.73, at least at the Dodge.com website. 4.10's are optional. I think the same applies to Ford. Edmunds ranks the Dodge better on the inside, something that must have changed on the Dodge as I always preferred the Ford interior (and exterior for that matter). In the end, all I want is a good mileage diesel and is pretty much bullet proof. That is where the Dodge seems to have the upper hand even if it is simply due to the longer track record of the Cummins I-6. I have yet to even think about going to a local dealer even if it's just to get a brochure. I am axious but have hit the age where I can easily wait before diving into something.

That's kinda what I think.... but yet to own a diesel truck. Why did you choose the Dodge over another Ford?? To me Dodge/Chrysler is beating the pants off of GM & Ford in styling, including the trucks. The new introduction vehicles from Dodge are off the chain too!

Poncho, for some reason the minor changes Dodge made on the outside have made me really rethink Dodge. I saw a Dodge 4 door with what I think was Atlantic Blue and it just seemed to stick with me. Once you get to the full size trucks, it seems to only make sense to go with the diesel in terms of power, economy and now relative lack of diesel noise. I am on my second diesel and would say that had it not been for the vast improvement in their performance since 1993, I would not be considering one. Todays diesel trucks are certainly beating the pants of their gas counterparts. Unless your strapped for cash, why would you get a Dodge, Chevy or Ford 3/4 ton or greater with a gas engine? I would really like to know. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
