AXE man Drama?

I just watched the second of the season .Im really stumped at this point. Are they deliberatly doing things to make the show???

Pun intended?

My wife & I watch the gold rush show on Fridays. I'm with the rest of you with regard to losing their homes but I'm also trying to figure out how they made no money last year yet picked up a $30,000 pump (or was it $25k?) in the offseason. What gives? Maybe Discovery picked up the tab for them...

It's all rigged, so we will watch every week.

Did everyone see the new 50k truck Jimmy from S&S was driving? They make more from selling tee-shirt's and auto-graph signing than they ever made loggin.

Swamp Loggers on the history channel is all about work and just a little bit of drama thrown in.

They chopped a tree down and it fell right on the guys truck:thumbsup::thumbsup:.Now any idiot would know to move the thing..LOL
Just so many things now on these shows that they do that are so unprofessional.I do think there is some sort of fund money for them.I dont see how any of these guys(the way they act now) could live to be over 30..
I guess there is only so much you can do with a show to keep it 'exciting'':D

I do watch and enjoy axman, like the scenery, like logging, and entertained by the BS. It is too bad they have to rely on staging/drama/father&son fighting, stealing logs, lots of cussing, fistfights, etc. etc. to make it appealing. I like Shelby cause he's a character, albeit reckless one. Driving into the trees was foolhardy, and the hole in that guys arm looked pretty nasty. I'm surprised a cameraman hasn't been hurt yet.....

Don't get me started on ludicrous housewifes of the US, and the kardasian follies and all those related shows.....what an absolute waste of time! And my wife loves it....:confused2:

My favourite faked part of gold rush was on season 1 when they found an old d6 cat on the claim. They then tried to jumpstart the 24v electrical system cat, with the thinnest jumper cables I have ever seen, and the 12v battery in their truck.... You can also see there are actually 2 d6 cats there, either that, or they changed out the blade for each shot...

deereman75,
LOL. I didn't see that, but I was surfing looking for something the other nite to watch before going to bed and saw on Axemen where a logger gave a young ex-GI a logging job and the guy didn't have any equipment! So he leased him an old yarder that "hadn't been run in 10 years". Threw a couple of batteries on it and after a couple of tries, it started right up. AFTER 10 YEARS? LOL. Yeah, it's staged. And yeah, I just went to bed. I agree with the others. I've watched a few of those shows just to see how they do stuff in those industries, but after a while the drama, belly-aching, etc. gets old. The old man and kid who appear to be dumber than rocks are probably the best actors around. Nobody could be that stupid or willing to be laughed at unless it was an act.

^^^ And the diesel fuel was still good in that dozer after sitting up all that time!!!! No gelling and ungelling all the time it sat unused for so long in the cold Alaska winters LOL.

I had a neighbor and great friend that owned an old COnstruction company. They had about 15 Cat and AC crawlers in the D7 size and the AC were all HD 16 19 20 and 21's. I remeber them sitting for ten years, hed put some fresh fuel in and 2 hot batteries and they would bust off. A deisel is a bit more weather proof than a gass burner but the D6 in the show was all faked.

I often will jump a 24 v machine with 12 volts. You have to take the jumper of one battery and charge one at a time. I saw what happens when 24 hits 12v one time. i was helping dad and I wa about 17 or so. Dad had an old 77 Ford work van he drove to the landfill . Our old scraper was in need of a set of battereis and the home office asked if he could jump it a few days.
Dad didnt want to as we had done it so they sent a company mechanic and he used dads van. Dad let him THe man didnt take the the jumper completely off. He just moved it back and tied it off. I was watching and asked the man to pull the cable off. He let it go. About that time the tie let go and the cable hit the other batteries post. Every wire and electrical item under dads old 300 straight six van instantly smoked. Company bought 3 new batteries and dad a new wiring harness.

THe old yarder / friction crane could have been mothballed when put back. We used to put cranes up like that extra chain and cable lube flush and reload the radiators and seal every thing off. But I do agree they either cut out a bunch of the start up and clean up of the machine or that machine hadnt been parked over a year.

I few outfits here do lend/lease equipment to folks that want to contract their logging ops. Its usually referred to buying or selling a crew. Its usually old or surplus machinery.

As for the swamptards I think my granny could get more log than them.
For the Alaskan crew that Coatsy fellow wouldnt last long down here or anywhere else talking to help that way let alone laying hands on someone. About and 18 inch section of 1 inch cable with a chocker bell on the would do him some good in the attitude dept.

Most the guys around here quit watching it or at least will not admit it any more. The first season was good and showed alot of good logging but went down hill after that.

The one girl they had a while back actually grew up down the road from here and went to school with my cousin. Now most the stuff is made up, the loggers will not fling around a $15,000 ACME carriage or a even more expensive Boman carriage. saw old man Browning in Astoria this last summer shopping at Safeway and watched him jump into a Mercedes SUV and drove off..........showbiz must be good.
