I am thinking about trading my BX 2200 in and buying a 2620. The primary reason for this is that I just bought a 10 acre field and plan to build there in the next 1-2 years. The field is smooth enough that I can mow 3-4 acres of it now with a ZTR (I bought the field from my brother and have helped him maintain it for the last several years.) The rest is rough enough from old ruts, etc, that a rotary cutter is needed.
My brother has a 33hp Case-IH and a 5' cutter. While it takes 4-5 hours to mow the rough 6 acres, it's time I don't mind spending, and it only needs to be done 2-3 times a year. A tractor that will handle a 5' light/medium duty cutter will be enough for me.
Here are my questions:
1. Will the 2620 handle a 5" rotary mower cutting field grass? I want it to handle the job of mowing 18-24" grasses easily, taking full swaths at a reasonable pace.
2. Eventually once I build, I will want to prep and seed 2-3 acres. My brother has a 5' roto-tiller. I will use this to ready the soil. Even though he has his tractor that I could use, I would rather use mine. Can the 2620 handle a 5' tiller?
3. I also plan to smooth out the ruts eventually, and mow the rest of the acreage every 3 weeks or so. I would want to use a 6' RFM for that. Again I would expect this to cut 8-10" grass down to 3-4", cutting a full swath at 4-5 mph. Can a 2620 handle this? I have a 52" Toro ZTR, so I would not be using the 2620 for the 2-3 acres by the house.
4. I will buy a FEL with this tractor. I will have a 400' driveway, but I now take care of similar driveway (plowing, grading) with my BX, so I know the 2620 will handle that chore. I will living next door to my brother, who owns a excavating company and has a Case 650 dozer, a case 580M backhoe, and a Bobcat tracked skid steer. I won't need to do much else with a tractor!!
Thanks for reading this long post. I am looking foward to your advice.
