I purchased a B1550 HST about a year ago and it has always had excessive play (turning) in the steering wheel (about 45 degrees). I have also observed that there is what seems to be excessive side to side play (3/4 inch). However, I just noticed yesterday that gear lube seems to be coming up to the top of the column and leaking out.

I will be ordering a service manual come Monday AM but until then, I am without any information as to what could be causing this. Does anybody have any ideas? Also, As I expect it will take a week to get the manual etc, does anybody have a file they could upload or email to me in the interim?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

I am not sure of your steering problem, Have you priced your service manual? I have a B1750 and wanted to get one just to have and they tell me these are the most expensive series to buy service manuals for. I was quoted over $150.00 for one.

There is a gear lash adjusting screw on the right side of the gear box. It looks like a slotted stud with a lock nut on it. Try releasing the lock nut and turning the stud in with a screw driver until all the play is removed, but not too tight. That worked when I had a similar problem with my B1550.

Thanks Frank,

Did you also have the SAE 90 leakage as I am seeing or was it just to solve the loose steering problem?

Thanks,

Steve
