I have a dumb question.... my manual says NOT to change the transmission fluid until 400 hours, yet I need to somehow replace the hydro oil filter without draining the fluid. I can only imagine the mess i am going to make while trying to swap the filter. Is the manual right? Why would't I change the fluid at the same time... it seems logical to do it. Also, any suggestions as to which oil to use for the engine and the transmission? The tractor is not HST.

Well I am sure this question will kick up a lot of dust but my opinion is to change everything out at the 50 hr service and then do it at the scheduled intervals.
If this is not your choice then use a vacuum on the tranny filler while you change the filters and you should lose very little oil.

I agree with kuboman, change the fluid at the same time. I'm about 22 hrs away from 50 and I'll prolly drain the fluid and replace it when I change the filter.

As far as which oils to use, just go to the dealer (since you'll be getting your Genuine Kubota filters there) and tell them which machine you have. They'll set you up with the right stuff.

Some guys "tilt" the tractor by parking it up on one side to lesson the fluid loss.
But, no matter which method you use, you've got to be ready and got to be quick.

As to whether to follow the manual and only change filter or dump gallons of pretty expensive fluid is a matter of considerable discussion here. You'll have to make up your own mind on that.

We don't use a vacuum on ours, we just do it quick and only lose about a quart. As mentioned whether or not to change is up to you, we don't and am not going to get involved in another debate on it.

Good luck with your tractor.

I followed the manual when it said change transmission fluid at 50hrs some YEARS ago. I now follow the manual that is now saying and has been saying for several years to change it at 400.
Be quick and be ready and the loss of fluid will not be a great amount. You could catch what comes out and put it back in but I wouldn't and will not when I change mine on my B2320. My B2320 is a gear drive and I will be using the UDT that was recommended (given to me) by my dealer (Barlows). Barlows has always recommended SUDT (given to me) for all of my other Kubotas with HST transmissions. I also use Kubota oil and Kubota filters. I did the drive all over to save $2.00 on filters in the past but determined it wasn't worth the possible savings for the possible problems and trouble.

Thanks to all for your comments on this debatable topic. I will go with the manual and change filters only. My tractor is a gear transmission.... If I had an HST I would most likely change the fluid as well.

Since I have the same maching I'll ask my 50 hour question here. Ordered my oil and filters from Messicks and think I ordered the SUDT2. Ordered a couple quarts for what might be loss with the filter change. Can I add the SUDT2 when it already has the SUDT. I would assume they are compatible but assuming things has gotten me into trouble before.

when i did my 50 hrs trans, i just changed: the oil filter, the suction, and the oil at the same time. my manual said i don't have to do either until about 400 but when i did i had some very minor shaving in the suction filter. in my opinion, the first maintance is the most important.

My 50 hour service on my BX2360 was done two months ago and I did change out the fluid. If you opt not to, you shouldn't loose too terribly much. Why did I go ahead and change it out? Too much maintenance is better than too little IMO.
