B2320 or B7510 (Duel purpose usage - Aviation & property)

   / B2320 or B7510 (Duel purpose usage - Aviation & property) #21
To add to some of the previous posts, should be no problem to widen the rear wheels, my B7610 has several holes on the axle shafts for that purpose, the B7510 should be the same. I have a Landpride flail mower, I rented a 5' rough cut for a day and didn't like it at all, very pleased with the flail.
You mentioned attaching the aircraft to the front of your tractor, any reason not to make a receiver for the 3 pt hitch and pull them that way?
My current tractor is my second one and while it is certainly better for what I use it for the first one, B6200, certainly served the purpose for the 13 years I had it.
As far as being slow going with the smaller tractor, that depends a little on your nature. I find seat time on the tractor to be a stress reliever most of the time so if it takes a bit longer to do the job with the tractor I have 'it's all good'.

Would the B7800 go by a different name in Australia? - Can't seem to find it here... Kubota Australia :: Categories :: Products :: Models

You mentioned attaching the aircraft to the front of your tractor, any reason not to make a receiver for the 3 pt hitch and pull them that way?

Backing it into the shed enables me to look down the sides of the aircraft easily as I reverse in...

With reference to the older model 7510, the dealer has said that I can get one of these for A$16,500 (US$11,100) however I'm under the impression that it's hard to get the FEL on & off plus it needs a separate loader control valve.

There is also a B7500 here on ebay (it'll cost around A$1000 to get to Sydney) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=110338619107

Thanks again for all your help...

Bluesky,
Kubota only stopped making the B7510 last year. I truly doubt that it would be any problem getting a loader for it. The loader valve is packaged with the loader purchase. The difference is on the new models the loader valve is packaged with the tractor. On the 7500/7510/7610/7800 it has to be installed when the loader is installed. (The 7500 uses the prety much the same loader as the 7510) As for the ease of taking off the loader. Hmmm... it might take about 2-3 minutes or 5-7 minutes if you are not familiar with it yet. The mowing deck such is the one on the EBAY item you listed takes about 10 minutes to install or take off.
The only other comment I would make is that if that $11.000 US does not include the loader that price in the US would be a little high. Although here in the far Northeast US prices are a good bit higher than let's say in Texas.

Okay, I've finally decided.... On the great advice given by PUSHINDIRT (Buy your 2nd Tractor First)... I've decided to go for the B2920 instead of the 2320... The cost of the unit is marginally more expensive. The only questions left are:

Do I go for turf tires or lugs? The property is slightly sloping (i.e. I don't think that the slight slope will be an issue and it's my objective to one day have it with undulating style grass, so I guess the lugs could/will churn this up?) - At the moment the bush grass is around 3ft high... I also understand that if I stick with the lugs, if I want to go to turf tires down the track it's around a A$2k exercise to change them over as it's not just a case of changing the tires...

Last question... Is it best to save the A$2k for the slasher (bushhog I think you call it in the US) and instead put the funds into a decent midmount mower instead... I understand that as I don't have too many rocks on the property the mower may do the trick, even though I'll need to do a few runs with it. I'm not worried (as this stage of excessive seat time as it'll be a great way for me to chill out! I could live to regret that naive statement I guess?)

All the best for now and thanks for your input & advice.

Mark.

PS - I may be going to the property on Sunday, so I'll take a few ground based shots to show on the forum.

Bluesky,

I actually own a 2920, and love the machine. I have the turf tires but there are several threads on this site discussing the differences between all the tire choices. I just sold my BX24 (I wish I had bought my second tractor first), I was able to purchase a second-hand under-mount mower for $600.00. I had no problem knocking down tall grass 2-3 feet. It by no means will provide a golf course cut first time around but, does a nice job. My father has a bush hog for the bigger stuff. I however, have been looking for a second hand under-mount for my 2920, but it is a new model and have not been able to find one.
I would recommend a toothbar for the loader, and loading the rear tires. I hope you like the machine as much as I do. Please post pictures!

I'm going to make my offer this week to the dealer for the 2920... Is there anything that I should be requesting in addition to the basic tractor... I.e. One dealer said that the labor for the 50hr service was included and another said the 50hr inspection I could just do myself! I'm also going to make it a condition that I do a pre-settlement inspection (as oppose to them just dropping the unit off)... Any other ideas?

Enclosed are a few pics taken when my son & I visited the new property today - I'm going to start with a slasher (bush hog) over a mid mount mower as the country is pretty rough in places... That grass is around 4ft in parts.

I've also enclosed a pic of the spring fed dam... Any "real" farmers/rural types (unlike myself who is just starting) know what the best thing to do with the reeds growing in the dam is (if anything?).

Thanks again. Mark

Hello Mark,

I would strongly suggest buying the kubota flail mower as it will handle everything better than a rotary slasher;

I fully understand it is your money but the tractor will work more efficiently and the power take off will not have the shock loads against it as a rotary cutter would as the flail mowers have better slip clutch protection and belt drives to absorb shock loads and the power take off will last longer with a flail mower as the knife drum does all the work and creates all that useable energy and they mow better.

Did you do a search for flail mower postings and responses? A sunshade is a must.

Also as far as the reeds are concerned -if they are in the water you can use copper sulfate to kill them- provided there are no fish!

Nice looking property. I like the wooded photo, what kind of trees are those?

From what I see in your photo's I think you have made the right decision buying a slasher rather than a mid mount mower. I don't know how it is in OZ but here the 50 service cost a fair amount in materials alone.

MarkV - I believe the trees to be Ghost gums, stringy barks & eucalyptus, however I'm quite a novice...

Finalised my 2920 (with lugs) today with the dealer, got if for AU$18,182 (plus 10% GST - goods & services tax, which I basically get back)... The government in Australia is also trying to stimulate the economy by offering businesses a further 10% investment allowance for new purchases over $10k)... So this tractor will end up costing me around A$16,365 (around US$10,100) which I think is a great deal! :)

The :Dslasher:D will be next and I'll buy the FEL when I need it later in the year...
