Worked on a friends B2620 that would not start. Turned out the rod that pushes the HST treadle safety switch had popped out of the hole in the metal cam plate behind the wall of the case.

That is one b@#$%h of a thing to get at....

This picture was taken after I forced it back into place.

Anyone have any idea if there is suppose to be any kind of retainer on the back of the rod?

I can check mine in the morning but if you go to messicks website you can look up the parts diagram, should be able to tell from that.

I did not find it there, but I did eventually find a parts picture on the kubota.ca site. The part in question is the ROD,NEUTRAL HST, part #6C15043430. Looks like there is no retainer on the back side.

Makes me really wonder how it got popped out in the first place!

If your friend had recently been working in tall grass, saplings, etc, (like brush hogging), maybe something like a branch got wedged in and pulled the rod out.

Well it lasted about an hour before it popped out again!. I do not see any sign of how it pops out, it is a real struggle to get it back in there. This time I bent the switch mounting bracket that has the guide tube on it out at the rear so it tends to move the front of the rod to the left, further into the ARM, NEUTRAL, part #6C30018153.
If it happens again I may try to bend in the side of the center frame to prevent the rod being able to pop out.

It was pouring here today so didn't get a chance to stick my head under the tractor. How many hrs are on the machine?

577 hours. There is no retainer shown in the parts listing and today I tried to get a look at the back of the rod but there is no way without cutting a hole in the center frame piece.
