Just thought I would post my fuel filter guard I made. Might save somebody some time. I run my tractor in the woods and could see a stick punching the plastic bracket or bowl right off.

That baby looks like it came from the factory. How did you get such an even contour with the bend??

I used a piece of 10 guage sheet metal, cut out the general shape. Clamped the bolt end in the vise and heated the rest nice and even with an oxy/acetelene torch just so it started turning red. I used a wide jaw pliers on the top so it wouldn't deform and slowly bent it. Then used a break to bend the mount 90 degrees. Made a gusset out of a piece of scrap 10 guage and welded it on. ( I'm not such a great welder but it will hold)

Very nice looking setup!

I thought of something like that ( Im rooting around in the woods all the time) and thought that instead of bending a piece of sheet metal...just cutting the curved section out of a piece of thinwalled pipe! ( you know.."pre-bent" sort of thing )

Great piece of work though...

Nice job! The location of the filter bowl has always given me the heebie-jeebies (I do a lot of work in the woods, too). Now all I need is an oxy-acetylene torch, a break, something to cut 10 gauge steel with, and some metalworking skills....

Suggestion: I'm prolly not the only metally-challenged owner who would pay maybe $15-$20 for one'a these.

Very nice clean job.
This will be my next project, I just hope I can make it as nice as yours.

That does look great! And yes... it'll be handy. I wish I would have had that on mine about a month ago. I was doing as you say you're worried about... going through a thick area and a stick came from under the front tire and broke the supply side fitting off the housing. It shut me down for the day (Sunday) and I dropped a couple of gallons of diesel also. The good part though was that the fuel filter was original and a replacement filter was about $11.... the whole housing with a new filter inside was only $16! Next time I replace the fuel filter I'll just buy another housing and I'll have a spare in the event that it breaks again.
