Not uncommon if your tractor sat on the dealers lot for months without being charged or something was left on running it flat.

Doing either will significantly shorten the life of a cranking battery.

When buying a new tractor from stock I insist that the battery be replaced if I suspect either.

Maybe you are right i know it was sitting outside for a few months at the dealer ship. I guess advanced auto will have a replacement maybe even costco been buying my car batteries there.

I have two stand by generators and a motor home that seldom get started. I used battery tenders for awhile but batteries didn't seem to last very long. I found a couple of old clock timers at a thrift store for a couple of bucks. Set them to come on one hour every day. No more problems with burning batteries up or not charged when needed.

An interstate battery for my truck lasted 3 years. Replaced it with a Walmart battery and lasted a lot longer. I've had good results from all my Walmart batteries. That's the only place I get them now.

THAT is a great idea. Lot better than a trickle charger or tender I think.

I agree i can just use a smart outlet! I was always under impression that a battery tender wouldn't hurt your battery, i have two schumacher brands.

I believe use and conditions can play a big factor.
I bought a new 95 mustang, my dad bought a leftover 94 months later.
Mine was a daily driver, his was a summer only garage queen.
He got 10 years out of the oem battery, I only got a few years.
Cold starts down to below zero F can be hard on a battery.
Factor in I was young and drove every where all the time and there were many startups per day.
I don’t think he ever disconnected or charged the battery up.
Also even though it was a leftover, it was a convertible, sitting on the show room floor with the top down.
It never saw below 42 degrees, the lowest their attached garage ever got.

And don’t forget to check charging voltage.
I went through a few batteries in that 95 mustang several years ago.
Finally got smart and checked the charge voltage after getting another replacement battery.
Over 16 volts.
I shut it down quick and didn’t drive it until I got the regulator replaced.
Now it is part of my battery replacement routine, check the charging voltage after replacing the battery.
