B2710 Hydro Servicing

I'm getting ready to perform my 50 hour maintenance on my B2710 and have some questions concerning the hydro. I understand there are four drain points; one front, one mid-pto, and two rear (one on each side of the trans housing). My owners manual shows one strainer, but I recall from earlier posts about there being two (one on each side of the trans housing?). My owners manual also shows a filter on each side of the trans housing, but I have only one on the left side. My dealer shows two filters in his parts book, (I bought both to be covered) and the new B2710's / B2910's on the lot both had two filters. Can anyone shed some light on this? Also, has anyone flushed the cooler and return lines while changing the fluid?

Mike, I can understand your confusion. You must have an early model B2710 (as I do). They only have one hydraulic spin on filter (on the left left side), and as you said, there are 4 drain plugs (I missed one on my first change), and there are two strainers (one on each side). The manual uses the word "strainer" (singular), but look closely at the two pictures (they are of opposite sides of the tractor). Further confusion then comes from the fact that the later model B2710s have two spin on filters and only one strainer. I haven't seen the newest manuals so I don't know whether they changed the manuals when they added the second spin on filter or not.

Thanks for the reply, Bird. I knew you went through this already with yours and it does get confusing without the proper information. My dealer had no info on a serial # break for the addition of the second filter. It was their open house on Saturday, with the Kubota rep on hand. He wasn't sure about it until we went out and looked at the new tractors with two filters. I think the factory could do a better job passing the info to the people who need it. How's that Texas garden coming along? It's too wet up here in PA to turn any ground over yet.

About 2/3 of the potatoes are showing now, so I suspect the rest will be poking through the surface in a few days. I'm going to have to re-plant some black-eyed peas; didn't have enough seed, planted too thin, and a lot of those didn't sprout. Everything else is looking good; onions, radishes, turnips, beets, yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, okra, tomatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, bell peppers, green beans, sweet corn, carrots, sugar peas, cantaloupe, watermelon, and pumpkin all sprouted and off to a good start. Blackberries are in full bloom, and lots of little plums on the trees./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My Illustrated Parts List shows the serial # change is after 50101. All 2910's have this change. I don't know when the change came on the 2710's. It must have been around mid to late 1999. <font color=orange>Kubota</font color=orange> Parts changes seem to be shown in the Parts List but not always in the Operators or Work Shop Manuals. My parts list is dated March 2000.

You have more "up-to-date" information than I do, then. My parts manual is dated April, 1999, and my serial number is 12429, so I guess it was well before the change.

Mike,Bird is right about the filter set-up on the earlier models,same as our 2710,one filter.About the time the 2910 was introduced,the duel filter systems started coming out on 2710's also.According to our Dealer,this upgrade was to eliminate the steering problems the early 2710's was having.Although I've never had a steering problem,there were some that did.A little tip on filling the trans. back up with new oil,put in the recommended amount less about a couple of quarts.Let the oil settle for a while,then check it.Then add a small amount at a time until it's full.It seems like you can never drain all the old oil out completely,so the required amount to fill back can be a little less than what the manual states.If you have a FEL,retract all the cylinders to push the oil back into the reservoir.Also get a BIG drain can or bucket,cause you're dumping a bunch of oil.I have never flushed the lines,as the filter and screens will pick up any contamination in the system.

Glad to see the garden is off to a good start. I'll be ready to break some earth and start planting in the next few weeks.
