Kubota B2710
Does anybody have a schematic on the oil flow for the B2710 or similiar Kubota engine?? I posted several months ago about the oil pressure light staying on at startup but only after the tractor has not been cranked for 2 or more days. I have taken the oil filter off after it has set for 2 days and it was empty. I have been told that this is normal. Does the filter have to be filled before the engine starts getting pressure or does the engine have pressure while the filter is filled and the oil pressure light is on?? I would like to see a schematic that shows. Thanks.

Are you using a Kubota filter?
It is my understanding that a quality filter will have an anti drain back (or something similar) valve on it to prevent this.

You need KubMech's input on this (hope I spelled correctly).
Most GM and Ford filters have an anti drainback valve as mentioned. The Kubota filter mounts horizontal and am not sure if they have a drainback valve. If you are not using a Kubota filter, I would install the correct Kubota filter before I looked into any further. My oil light goes out immediately. Are you using a too high viscosity oil for the colder temp's or has this been happening all summer?

My oil light has always gone out immediately, too; using genuine Kubota filters. I don't find an oil flow schematic in any of my B2710 manuals, but do find one for another Kubota engine, so I scanned it and will try to attach it. Don't know whether it will help you or not. First attempt to post it failed, so this is the second attempt.

Darn it; had to reduce it so much to get it down to a postable file size that I don't know whether you can read it or not.

I'm not familiar with your engine, but in most of the engines I've dealt with - the oil is pulled up from the crank case into the pump and then pumped through the filter and then past the pressure switch and onto the engine vitals for lubrication. So, if your filter is draining after setting, I would expect it to be a few seconds until the filter is pumped full and then oil can pass by the pressure switch and the light will go out. Similar to starting after an oil change and a new filter is installed. Probably not the best situation for cold start-ups - as it is taking some time to get lubrication to you engine's internals.

Should there not be a check valve in line somewhere to prevent draining of the oil system. Call the dealer or CubMech.

I have always used Kubota filters and oil. I was told by the Kubota service manager, and he checked with the Kubota service area manager, that the oil in the filter drains from the filter back into oil pan. I use 10W30 weight oil from Kubota. The tractor has 200 hours on it and the oil has been changed 4 times. The only time the oil light stays on is when the tractor has set for 2 or more days. Any other time the oil blinks and then goes out. The tractor does not make any knocking noises and does not give any indications of no oil pressure. The kubota dealer verified that the oil pump was putting out 65 lbs of oil pressure.

When it sits for 2 days, how long does it take (in seconds) for the oil pressure light to go out?

It takes anywhere from 3 to 5 seconds. This is an informal check. I count 1001, 1002, etc. It started when the tractor had about 150 hours on it. I do not believe that it did it before then. I check all my equipment and keep them WELL maintained. The tractor is used to mow about 4 acres and sits for several days at a time.
