Hi I'm New, Please Help ! ! I have B2710 325hr. 4 Years old use mostly for cuting grass at home about 80 hr a year. After 20 minutes of running at high PTO speed the steering becomes stiff and hard to turn. It does this no matter what RPM's I'm running at. When turning to the extreme left or right I can hear a whinning noise. The only other time I notice it is when I first start the engine, for the first minute the steering is a little tight, but not as bad. I think this stiffness is normal while the hydraulic fluid is warming up. I also notice that the past year the Hydraostaic pedal in low, medium or high range, is a little jerky at times when you go forward or backwards. However, the problem with the steering once the engine is hot is realitivly new. Is there any flow adjustment or bleeding the lines other than turning the wheel to the right and left? All the fluids are at the right level and I have really kept this machine up with all of the service and fluid changes. Change Hydraulic oil at 50, 100 and 2 mo. ago @ 300 hr. Used Kubota Super UDT and Kubota filters. Also clean screen that was not dirty. Please let me know if you can help me out with this problem. Thanks, Staci /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A dealer needs to check the relief valve setting on your power steering. It sounds as if the valve is opening up when hot and not holding pressure.

I hope I got all those links right /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif but you'll find more than you want to read about that problem. Mine was very minor, AlanL's was a little more severe, and it sounds as if yours is more severe.
Thank you for the references. I will check them out. I wonder if putting the "Super" UDT fluid in my tractor caused the problem. Before I was only using the regular UDT and do not recall a problem. I live in Louisiana and it is over 90 degrees everyday during the summertime. Just wondering if the regular UDT is better for extreme hot climates. Staci, I have no technical knowledge about the different hydraulic fluids, but I'm pretty confident the the Super UDT has nothing to do with the problem. I'm sure it's at least as good as, and probably a little better than, the regular UDT.

I had a pretty severe problem with my 2710 years ago. It would take about 2 hours + of brush hogging in 97 plus temps and then the steering would completely fail. Cooling down at idle would fix the problem for a few minutes, then it would recur.
Kubota refused to acknowledge the problem. I explained fully the problem that I was having and that it would take more than 2 hours of mowing in the heat for the problem to show up. But when I finally got Kubota's maintenance rep at my dealer with my tractor, they tested it for one hour and pronounced it to be "operating normally". They did some fluid pressure and temp checks and then basically called me a liar.
I took the tractor to the dealer at least 4 times for the problem, and was without it for at least a month total. Before getting the Kubota rep in the picture the dealer tried changing out the steering assembly, and they changed the fluids, but it didn't do any good.
After my tractor was out of warranty, the Kubota rep called me out of the blue and said they have a fix for the problem (the one I didn't have according to them). It involved rerouting they hydraulic lines and replacing the screen with a filter. Kubota performed this modification at no cost.
Since this modification, the problem seems to be about 90% fixed. First, the last couple of years haven't been as hot as it was when the problem was most prominent. Secondly, the power steering still binds some in high range after doing some hard work in the heat. Enough that when you are doing 11 miles an hour it won't turn when it is supposed to so you have to allow for that to be safe. I have brought this fact up with Kubota and they say they have fulfilled all their responsibilities.
Looking back, my advice is to make them fix it and leave it on their doorstep if they refuse. Kubota will take as little responsibility for problems as it can get away with.
My tractor is now 6 years old and has 635 hours on it. At least 250 hours of this was spent with no power steering. In hindsight I should have taken it up with the state attorney general, but I kept thinking Kubota would come through.
This is a great tractor, and I have had exactly zero problems other than this. But I feel Kubota never made me whole on the deal, as I still experience minor steering problems during transport.
Don't let them get away with it.

Thanks for the information Allen. Looking back at the forms that Bird sent me it looks like your B2710 did not have a hydraulic filter on the right side and Kubota updated your tractor. My tractor came with the HTS filter on the left and a screen next to that filter and a hydraulic filter on the right. (Is there any other screen on the right that I am not seeing?) Therefore, my tractor should be updated to the new style and that should not be the problem. Talked to the service manager at my local dealer today and they were not aware of a problem and spent some time on Kubota's dealer website and could not find any steering issues. They said that with Kubota Tractor they just dont have much problems. They told me if I brought it in they would check some hydraulic pressure points and call Kubota. I told them they would have to cut grass for about 45 min. for the problem to appear. The dealer is a JD & Kubota Dealer but only been selling kubota for 4 years. I don't know if it is worth me spending money on service for them to try to fix something and it doesn't fix the problem like I've been reading on the site. Do you know of any bullitin or actual fix for this problem now? Thank you for your help!!

Staci, I'm not sure since it's been awhile since I looked at one of the B2710s with the two hydraulic filters, but on the ones with the single filter, and perhaps the others, too, there's a banjo fitting and screen on each side.

Staci, I heard all that "we haven't had any problems with steering" BS too. Its a lie. There are several that have had the problem, I know at least 2 others besides me. Even if the dealer doesn't know about the problem Kubota does. But Kubota will claim they don't have the problem to try to avoid fixing it.
If you're lucky your dealer will find something readily fixable, but if they don't resolve it you must be aggressive and should not be satisfied until its fixed.
Speaking of Super UDT I'm with Bird, I think it should be at least as good as UDT. However, strangely enough my problem started after my 50 hour service in which I replaced the UDT with Super UDT. Could have been a coincidence. Since then I went back to UDT, but the last time I changed it I put Super UDT in it, and thats what is in it now.

Allen, when you went back to the regular UDT did it help your steering problem? How is your tractor running now that you put the Super back in it? According to Kubota, the Super UDT container says it is designed to give extra protection for cold weather operation. I'm thinking that the regular UDT may be alittle bit thicker and some how makes the steering work better in hot temperatures. In 300 hours and 4 years I have not noticed a difference in the steering in hot temperatures until I switched to the Super UDT. My dealer says that Kubota told them to use only the Super in there tractors, the dealer kind of laughed and said it is more expensive.
