Mowing B2710 too big for lawn mowing?

Hi Mark,
I mow 6 acres with my B2910 (pretty close to what you have) and a 72" mid mount mower. I also have R4 industrial tires that are not filled. As long as the ground isn't too soft, I don't have any problem with leaving tire marks in the ground. Last year I started the mowing season about a week too soon before the ground firmed up enough, and I did leave some ruts. I think the key is to make sure the ground is firm enough before you mow, and also to remember to take it out of 4WD before you make any turns. I have a couple of hills that I need 4WD for, and every once in a while I forget to kick it back into 2WD, and the front tires will scuff the grass off where you make a sharp turn. I also haven't noticed any problem going over our leach field with my tractor either.

Good luck, and welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Like the others have already stated, a lot of it depends on your application but it is probably not too big. My uncle mows his lawn now with a L3130 with loader and loaded R4s and says that it does less damage than his old B8200 did with loaded R1s.

I have a B-7800 with loaded R-4's and a 60" mmm although I haven't gotten to use it to mow with since I bought it in November. I have driven over the drainfield numerous times this winter with the 500 pound box blade on the back and a load in the bucket and it didn't leave any ruts. I did this while the ground wasn't frozen too just to test it. I figureed with the bucket loaded and the box blade on that would be the most weight it would see!!! I can't wait til spring to get started mowing!!!!!

Don't forget the other things you may want to do with the tractor.

My L3000DT seems a bit big and clumsy mowing, but it sure is good at clearing snow, running a tiller, and box blade.

it really depends on the lawn u are mowing, how many trees, etc. plus the type of ground. i run r4's on mine and i find that even with dry conditions it will scuff the grass when turning especially if sharp turns are required.
