Hi everyone. Please I need help I'm trying to install a heavy duty alternator kit on my B2910. The kit comes with a new wiring harness but it has less connections than the old one.The old harness has connection for what looks to be the oil pressure sending unit. The new harness does not. Also at the starter the new one has only one connection, a bolt on type. The old harness has two,one bolt on ,one slide on.The instructions say to connect the bolt on connector with the two that is already on the starter but one of those comes off of the old harness. The instructions also say to remove a part under the dash. The picture is not clear but all I could see that looked like it was an odd piece of metal with what looks like cooling fins. The kit comes with a new dip stick. Do I remove the old dip stick tube from the engine block? The new dip stick is shorter than the old one.Maybe Bird or Kubmech or anyone else that has done this can talk me though this? Please.I have worked on cars, trucks, lawnmowers and other things Mostly minor things.I just don't want to mess up my new tractor. Thanks everyone for any help Richard.

To start off, I have never installed this kit on your model tractor. The most popular HD ALT install I remember is on the R series wheel loaders with cab and those are direct replacements, no re-wire. So......All I can offer is a few ideas of what is going on in your case. The new alternator most likely has an internal voltage regulator, hence removal of the component with the "cooling fins" under the dash. (that would be your old system regulator) As far as the oil pressure sender connection, your system as it is, uses a ground through the alt diode to turn on the oil press light when the engine is not running to test the light prior to start. Once the engine starts/Alt starts turning the light loses the ground and shuts off, unless there is an oil press problem then the light will receive its ground from the sender/ switch itself and turn on the light. I wonder if you need to unravel the tape in the existing harness to see exactly what the new harness replaces? You mention two connections at the starter, one blade and one terminal. The blade connection goes to the starter solenoid and really should not be linked with the charging system (read start/cranking circuit) The terminal is part of the charging circuit and feeds directly back to the battery, that's how it charges. The other connection at the large terminal of the starter (most likely white) goes to the fuel solenoid. I have a feeling if you unwrap the tape from the existing harness it may make more sense to you what goes where. As far as the new dipstick tube, does it look like the new alt will cause some sort of clearance problem? Now you refer to it as a new tube length, that to me says that you should have a new dipstick to go with it as well? Those Kubota "kit instructions" can be "interesting" at times. I feel your pain, hopefully I have been of some help.............

Thanks, Kubmech. The information does help.I'm beginning to think I am suppose to leave the old harness on .Leaving it connected to the starter and the oil pressure unit.Of the parts the instruction tells to remove the old harness is not on the list. What do you think? Also all I got was a new dip stick not the tube. The new dip stick is shorter.Since the tube on there is bolted to the old alt. I need to remove it. Is the tube threaded into the block or just pressure fitted? The new dip stick must fit direct into block.Thank you.

Without looking at the kit, and judging by your conclusion, I agree. While removing the old voltage regulator completely may not be neccesary I'm sure disconnecting the harness from it it is, to prevent any "goofy" feedback problems. Follow the kit instructions and see how it goes...............
