B2910 FEL Bucket Width

 / B2910 FEL Bucket Width #21
Hi Glen,

According to my dealer the "light duty" wording applied to the 60" bucket is a carry over from another Kubota loader. It's a larger loader used on a larger tractor and in that application the 60" bucket is "light duty" compared to the "heavy duty" bucket that comes standard with that loader. This was an issue for me when I was deciding which bucket to go with and my dealer researched this question before I bought. It was also his suggestion to go with the 60" because the price increase was very small, increased volume, width to cover tracks and identical constuction to the 54".

And again, I owned both buckets and can assure everyone that the construction and material thicknesses are identical. Kubota would be dong themselves and everyone else a favor if they'd edit this wording out of the B series literature. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Oh, and one other thing. The 60" bucket is not just 6" wider, it's also higher and deeper.

Photos tell a lot. Thanks a bunch for the information and photos.

Dave, thanks for clarifying. However, further deep thinking on this subject (aka daydreaming at work) convinces me that the 54" is best for me. It covers tracks, is at least slightly more heavily built, is more maneuverable in the woods and garage, is better for digging, and is more aesthetically proportionate to the rest of the tractor. The only advantage I see to the wide bucket is if you are constanltly carrying small bales, manure or mulch. Nor do I see any advantage for me in the snow, because the bucket's snow role is subsidiary to the 72" backblade.

No problem Glen. This is not the first time this question has come up... and it probably won't be the last./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

And just in case I've come across as pushing for everyone to opt for the 60" bucket, I'm not. Just passing on my reasons for choosing this size while realizing there's not "a one size fits all" answer here. And your right about maneuverability. I have to pay extra attention now when I'm on a trail or in other tight quarters. My snow situation is likely to force me to move some big piles of snow at some point. I won't be able to backblade the stuff far enough away from the driveway after a few heavy snow storms. Then I think I'll really appreciate the extra volume. Of course this is just theory now since I still haven't had a chance to plow any snow yet./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Still waiting on wheel spacers too!/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Take Care- Dave

I think Kubota's "light duty" nomenclature is really misleading. I've shown no mercy whatsoever in using my 60" bucket and it's holding up just fine. I've got lifting hooks welded on with no reinforcement, I've bullied out tree stumps that stand taller than I do, and carried around every kind of material imaginable. The bucket is NOT just for snow and mulch.

I would get the 60" bucket (oh yea, I did get it) without hesitation.

If anyone needed a heavier 60" bucket, be aware that the pin size and spacing is the same between the LA402 and LA481/2 front loaders - this means a 60" HD bucket from an LA482 would fit. Just a thought....

The design came from Carver site. Click here for their picture. The one they show weighs about 500 lbs. I lightened everything up. It weighs less than 140 lbs. Most of the steel used was leftover from other projects. 3” bar that supports grapple and cylinder came from a trailer axle that was shortened. Side plates were made from drilling templates for modifying a machine. The 1 ½” square tube came from a valve mount when I did my Tip N Tilt project.

Grapple and cylinder can be removed from bucket with 2 pins and quick disconnect hydraulic hoses.

Other than time I spent about $150 for Cylinder, hoses, fittings and pins.

I installed hooks on bucket in a previous project. Click here to see this project. Hooks can still be used. The mounting holes are under the 3” support.

I can pickup a log with the tooth bar and grapple and lift it with the bucket.

I have not used the tooth bar much. I tried to do some digging with it in sod. It ripped up the sod and filled the bucket half full on the first pass. Backed up and made another pass over the same area and cleaned up most of the sod and filled the bucket. Dumped the load back into the hole I had just dug and leveled it out by backing up with loader in float. Overall it will be a good addition to my collection of attachments. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Weight of Tooth Bar and Grapple is 275 lbs. With 900 lbs. lift on a 402 FEL I still have over 600 lbs. lift left. To move dirt stone and other loose material I will be taking both of these items off bucket.

Hello ronjhall,
That is a great/neat looking grapple. I would like a tooth bar for my bucket.
Is yours homemade also? If not homemade would you tell me where you purchased and approx. cost? I just inquired about a tooth bar and was told that it would extend the leading cutting edge of the bucket approx. 5 inches. Yours looks like it is no furthur out than original and only the teeth are approx. 5 inches in front of the cutting edge. Am I close?
Thanks for help, advice, suggestions......

Norris,

This was posted a while back by Steve Carver Tooth Bar Pricing Guide The bar I bought from Carver did not extend the cutting edge significantly (may be and inch?)

I purchased mine from Carver Equipment. Price was less than $300.00. It fit perfect. Just had to drill 2 holes for the bolts that hold it on.
