B2910 front wheel snapped off!

I just lost the left front axle on my B7800 and it looks identical to yours. On my hub the studs are threaded and look like your pic of your new ones but in the parts diagram I have it notes to replace the axle and studs simultaneously. I have my old ones out and they look like new so I think I'll just deprive Kubota of a little piece of my pocket. Was there a noticeable difference in the new versus old axles? If so I think I'll replace both but if not I'll play the waiting game.

The year the B2910 was made was between 2000-2005
The year Your B7800 was made was between 2003-2008

Looks like you had the "upgraded" axle,
it would be interesting to know what year "your' tractor is and
What year dlabrie B2910 is.

That way, we could questimize when the update took place,
if you do have the updated axle, sounds like it may have to be updated, again.

I bought my tractor new in march or April of 2005 with .2 hrs on it.I contacted Messicks and their technical guy,Les, said he searched as far back as he could go in both their records and Kubota's and can't find that there was ever a different part # for this part.I ordered one to replace this one and will look it over closely. Sure wish I had access to an Xray to check it out.

Just bring it to a machine shop, where they re-build engines.
They can check for defects or crack's.

Thanks,I had decided to try that today but wasn't sure if they could help. Now I won't feel as foolish asking.

Well in 10 days it will be 3 years since I broke off the RF wheel. Today, I broke off the LF wheel :) Thankfully, I detailed my experience here, because I had completely forgotten what I did to repair the other one. It happened not far from where I broke the first one, way down in the woods. I remembered a suggestion here to lift the axle off the ground with the bucket and chain it to the frame and 3-wheel it out. It worked like a charm! I was back at my garage in 10 minutes.

So, tomorrow, I will take it apart, bring it to the dealer, have them order the needed parts, including new studs, Have them press out the old bearings, etc, install the new ones when the parts arrive, pick it up and re install it .

Let's see if it goes as planned :)

Yeah, some have said, replace the other if one breaks. I have not, but expect one day to do the same on my left. Who knows, when? Heck, I have been trying to trade up or get rid of the B for years now, still have it. :)

I know what you mean. I brought the bevel gear and case to the dealer to get the parts put in and got to see all of those new shiny Kubotas !!!!!!

I really have no complaints on my B2910, I have asked it to do much more that it is rated for and those axle breaks are the only problem I have had. It now has 1200 hours on it and I hope I can keep it going for another 1000 w/out too much trouble.

I put the axle assembly back on last night and let the RTV gasket maker set up. I'll put the 80w90 oil in today. I am also going to do the 1200 hour maintenance as well and hopefully, be back in business ( is there a fingers-crossed smiley? :) )

Glad you remembered how to get it out of the woods. That makes a pain in the butt job just a little more tolerable. So, are you back to the smiley face yet?
I have plumbing yet to finish this weekend before I can get any tractor therapy in. By the time I get a little 13" piece replaced I will sorely need the therapy. I cut the floor away last weekend and replaced an active leak. One more pipe is ready to go but I didn't have the part on hand so this weekend is time to do it. It is kinda hard to get my 250 pounds into a crawl space that is 12" tall. And no, screaming didn't help one bit. Maybe it was because of all the cursing that went with it.

Not sure if they still offer the old part number or not, but the updated axle is P/N 32721-57323. It should be stronger than the original which is why they updated them. That P/N I listed is also used on the B26 industrial tractors, so they should hold up without any trouble.

My front loft wheel on my B2910 snapped of while clipping my field. It was a low-stress operation on the tractor. I found that it sheared from the axle on a poorly engineered and executed weld. The axle consists of a flange (to attach to the wheel) and a shaft, welded together and machined afterward to be the finished axle. The weld penetration on the inside was completely machined through, and the weld penetration on the outside was machined back to be less than .050" thickness. There was about .400" of interface with no weld penetration. This .050 of weld is what failed. The replacement axle was similarly fabricated, but at a larger diameter interface, with no obvious indication that the weld on the inside had been machined through. That indicates to me that the manufacturer became aware of this faulty design and took corrective measures for the new part. If this is true, I believe that the factory should have issued a recall and replaced them all for free. This could potentially be a very dangerous situation.
,,,,Thank you for the lucidity in describing this latent defect.

So does that mean they will stand behind a sub-standard product?

Again, with what we pay for this equipment, we should not be receiving equipment better suited for a kids sandbox.
Not quite. They improve the part but still charge the victims of the original design defect.

Try praying. It usually works better than cursing.
Seemingly there was not enuf cursing at Kub for this. Customer complacence garners the minimum response.

Not to laugh at your mis-fortune, but I did get a chuckle after reading this whole thread including your ordeal getting it out of the woods the first time...3 hours!:laughing:
We've all been there at one time or another. I'm glad you shared how to do this easier.
