Chain hooks are the greatest! I used to struggle to chain something to my bucket...now with a couple grab hooks using chains is a piece of cake!

Man I love my toothbar/chain hook combination!

Attached is a pic to prove it! It was a willow tree, so not very heavy. My rear tires are loaded. I would rather have had more ballast, like a my boxblade or backhoe on, but even with jus the PHD on the back it was very solid.

Do you think a Miller 135 Mig welder has enough heat to weld hooks to the bucket or am I better off just fabbing everything myself and taking it to someone who has something heavier? (I'd prefer to do it myself, but a new welder is about $600 and I need a box blade /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

You can weld hooks with your Miller, just means multiple passes. A stick welder in AC only though shouldn't cost you more than 100 to 200 bucks.

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Yeah, just trying to conserve my garage space. I want to eventually upgrade to a heavier mig, but that's at least a year away with the new tractor and everything else.

BUT...unless you are experienced [or a natural born talent] at stick welding, it will take a lot of practice to get welds that look as good as those you are getting with the mig.

Like B21nut says, you can do it with the Miller. Just try to be sure you are getting good penetration and not hot-gluing them on... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ok, the new toothbar is here!! Anyone know what size drill bit I need for the holes? Just trying to avoid taking the bolt with me and "gueestimating". /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PS - Will I need a drill bigger than a 3/8 Dewalt to put these holes in? My biggest bit now is 1/2 and it's way to small.

It's probably 5/8 or 3/4. Take the bolt with you to the hardware store and get a bi-metal hole saw (usually white) and the proper mandrel for your drill. The bucket metal is relatively soft and the bi-metal hole saw will cut thru it like a hot knife thru butter. Thats how I did mine on my B2710.

My toothbar uses a 3/4 inch bolt for mounting. I used a hole saw to drill the holes. Very easy to install.
