B2910...which filter\'s which?

Hi,

I just clocked 50 hours on my new B2910. And to think I was worried that I would not get fifty hours in before the snow flies!

Anyway, I got the filters from the Kubota dealer and as expected, my filter wrenches all did not fit...so I got no where anyway as I attempted to do the 50 houe service.

But...I realized that since the filters on the machine are painted gray, and I am pretty sure [but not completely] are not identified with numbers, I don't know which of the filters on the back are hst and hydraulic.

Can someone tell me which is which, related to the rear tires. Looks like the one behind the right rear tire requires a linkage to be taken off partially to get the filter off.

I do want to get these on right, as there must be a difference between them as one cost 2.5 times as much as the other. I can't call the dealer to ask until monday and would like to get the job done tomorrow.

Thanks for any help!

Re: B2910...which filter\'s which?

Well Bill, what a coincidence. I just did my 50 hr today and was going to post the results, so here goes.
50 hr service, engine oil filter 67955-37710 4 qts.
Battery OK,Air cleaner, fuel filter, fan belt OK
Looks like left brake link missing pin -replace tomorrow
Trans oil filters left 66021-36060 right 16271-32090 you are correct OE all gray. I removed mine and notice one has convex thread hole and the other has concave thread hole. I just matched the way they came off.
Three plugs, all have washer, first one stuck to side of housing 11/16 socket
Notice difference after second removed. Did not lose any of 3
Trans strainer very little amount metal particles visible. 1- 1/16 socket
Grease,
<font color=red>Did not find "Front transmission case" (Drain plug) pg 59
<font color=blue>Front Axle case oil , drain plug at each wheel housing book says change 300 hrs

Re: B2910...which filter\'s which?

HI Gotrocks

I just checked my receipt for the filters.

On the box of the 16271-32080 filter the parts person wrote "engine" and the receipt says "filter, oil"

The 67955-37710 is listed as filter, hyd. oi

And the 66021-36060 is listed as filter, HST

So...did you put the right filter on the engine and get the numbers transposed in your post? OR...???

Why's such a simple thing, so difficult, eh?

Looking forward to your confirmatioin of the numbers!!!

Thanks...Bill in Pgh, PA...

Re: B2910...which filter\'s which?

Now you tell me to look at invoice.
Mine shows:
16271-32090 Oil Filter 5.95
66021-36060 HST Filter 6.25
Hyd Filter 12.96 no number shown this box had a Jap label stuck on the side
All three were smaller dia. than originals. Wrench slipped used chanel locks

Guess I'll call my dealer Monday and see what he says.

Thanks for calling my attention to the numbers.

Re: B2910...which filter\'s which?

My invoice shows:

16271-32090 Oil Filter $4.75
66021-36060 HST Filter $4.45
67955-37710 HYD OI Filter $11.11 [has Japanese box]

I guess I will have to add my voice to bunch that are dissatisfied with Kubota manuals. I will look at the manual a third time and see if I can make sense of this. I doubt if I can and will probably put off doing anything until I can get the dealer to tell me "This one goes here...that one goes there..."/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Whoops, I mean /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Re: B2910...which filter\'s which?

Hi again,

I did the B2910 50-hour service today. I am posting these details in hopes that it makes someone's life easier in the future when they are do to make their first oil/filter change on their B2910 [or B2710 ?]

Before doing it I called the dealer parts person and got a confirmation of the filter numbers and where they were supposed to go.

She told me that she had her parts book marked as to where the filters go because questions on them are common. I can understand that! I can't imagine why a company would put filters on a machine and not mark them with any numbers at all. I thought that this might be because they were painted over, but the one filter that came from Japan was all gray too. and had no real meaningful numbers on it that made any sense. Just something like h29 [that is not exact. I don't remember what it was]. It was a useless number.

What I was told is:

16271-32090 Oil Filter $4.75 - this is the engine filter

66021-36060 HST Filter $4.45 - goes on back left

67955-37710 HYD OI Filter $11.11 [has Japanese box] goes on back right

I almost called the dealer again after I took the engine filter off, because at first look it seemed to match the 67955-37710 filter. Then I noticed there was a difference, a lip on the outside edge beyond the gasket that was not on the engine oil filter. So I followed the dealer's instructions and installed the 16271-32090 on the engine.

The 66021-36060 filter I got from the dealer was smaller than the one that came off, but the gasket was the same diameter so I put the new one on the back left, as the dealer instructed.

The remaining one, 67955-37710, went on the back right. The one that came off had the little protruding lip like the replacement one did.

To finish the job right, I put about half or a bit more of the super udt fluid in from the five gallon bucket, then checked level, added some more, checked level and it just reached the dip stick, then I started day dreaming as I put more in and managed to overfill the thing, and had to drain a bit back out, three times until the level got back down!

Live and learn! Next time out comes five quarts from the bucket before I start puttin any in the tractor!!!

Hope this is of some interest.

Next time it will be a piece of cake.

Re: B2910...which filter\'s which?

Thanks Bill,

You have said it much better than I did.
I had put the Trans filter on the engine and the engine filter on the Trans (RIGHT) side but WRONG filter.

I jacked up the right rear about 8" and removed the WRONG filter and it look like almost 3 gal drained out. While still jacked up removed the engine filter and only a small amount drained. I caught all in separate clean containers and put it back when the filters were swapped.

I did have a slight problem putting the RIGHT Trans. filter on because the linkage for Forward/Reverse was keeping me from getting the threads lined up, but after pulling on the bottom of the forward petal the linkage moved up enough to get the longer filter on.

Thank you again for calling my attention to my screw up.

Now I can continue cleaning the flower beds and get ready for the new plants.

Re: B2910...which filter\'s which?

I keep asking myself how such a simple thing can be so difficult!

Bottom line is kubota should put numbers on their filters!!!

Glad we finally both finally got it right! Next time will be easy!

On mine, for the right rear, I was able to remove one spring clip, if that is what you call them, and the linkage dropped out of the way and I could easily remove the rear right-hand filter. At first the clip looked like it was bent in a way to make removal difficult, but it turned out that it was simply bent that way to hold it in place and make removal easy at the same time.

I may do another filter (3)/oil/hyd change at the 100 hour mark, just to get a good start on keeping the machine in top shape.

Expect that I will hit 100 hours before the snow flies...
