All of you who have the 72 inch mid mount on the B29 and or B2710, how well does it mow? I am thinking about getting a mid mount mower for my 6 acres or maybe getting the Kubota ZD28 Zero turn for my land. I would rather get the B2910 because I can have many attachments but if the mowing quality is not excellent, then I will get a Zero turn mower. Could anyone give me their opinion on their experiences with a 72 inch mid mount.

dlockh4258, I Have the 72" deck for my B2710 and love it! It cuts just as well if not better than my neighbors JD Zero turn mower, he seems to get lots of clumping of windrows with it. But that could be from his kids going too fast. I had a rear finish mower with my old tractor, and much prefer the MMM. Very easy to put on and take off. I have never driven a zero turn mower, so I can't say if its better than what I have. But if you take the mower off, you now have a tractor for other chores. Add an FEL and you are all set!

Have owned a B-2710 with 72" MMM,Very good deck, does a super job,and doesn't work the tractor at all.The deck will roll on the ground with the gauge wheels and the help of the 3-point linkage.

Now,the ZD28 appears to be an excellent mower also,it has a suspended style deck such as the BX,in my opinion, this style deck will do a little better job of mowing,as far as "level". Like you and Von have said, the compact is much more versatile.

I would recommend high lift blades for either unit,as they help pick up the grass that you run over with the tires and discharge the clippings out of the deck a little better.

It' a tough call, would the Dealer let you demo either one or both?I would sure give a try, after all, you're the one spending the money.

I have a 60" MMM with my B2910. Cuts like a Golfcourse as far as quality goes. Easiest thing in the world to put on and off. Takes me about 3 minutes. Even when cutting tall stuff at 2000 RPM the tractor doesn't even seem to notice. Almost got the 72" with the new tractor, but with only 5 acres of grass the extra foot wasn't that important as the FEL and PHD.

I had a B2150 w/ MMM. Basically the same deck. Cut nice. I used a rear mount on my B2910 and L3010. I now finish cut with the ZD28 with 72 inch deck.

The ZD cuts nicer and faster as far as ground speed because the blade tips are 18,500 fpm. The deck also hangs instead of riding on the guage wheels. But the big difference is manuverability! If you have a property that has lots of obsticles (trees, gardens, buildings, whatever) the ZTR will save tons of time. I am averaging cutting 4 acres with over 100 trees, 2 barns, gardens, house, pool, shed, kennel,900 feet of driveway in 1 hour 15 minutes. Sometimes less and sometimes a little more. Used to take me three hours with the tractors. And I am much, much more refreshed afterwards. I wish I had more to cut. And it's much more fun.

If you have land that is fairly clear you could still cut faster but the advantage would not be as nearly as high I think.

Also there is no way I could live without my L3010. I use the FEL all the time and it is the workhorse for the rest of the place and does all my bushhogging in the pastures. With the ZTR you don't have a machine that can do everything. My ZD28 is strictly for mowing. If you can justify the money, get the best of both worlds (theres a reason the pros use ZTRs) but for a catchall you won't be able to beat the B2910.

I have a 72” MMM. It cuts as good as any mower I have owned. I would recommend this mower for a 27-2910. It can cut damp or dry grass without strain on the tractor. I can cut my 2 acres of lawn in mid-range, which is about 5.5 MPH without slowing down except to make turns.

just a few words of advice from a zd owner. i bought one of the first zd-21 mowers that came out. never, ever a single complaint at all!! great cut, 3 acres, 60 trees, one hour and 10 or 15 minutes. BUT --- if i had it all to do over again, i'd have bought bx or maybe somethin a little bigger. it's mowing, and that's it!! when i need a bushog or front loader, got to go get out the old ford 8n and boy, after gettin off the kub, thats a treat!! the pros might need a zd, but i'm goin shoppin or tradin!
