I am planning on buying either a B2910HSD or an L3010 (or possibly an L3130). One of my main considerations is stability on hillsides and maneuverability in tight places. Any thoughts on differences between the two?

Just went through the same process with the 2710 and 3010. For me, smaller size of 2710 won out for maneuverability.

One thing I would recommend is getting the HST. Makes a big difference when you're trying to squeek between the barn and a post (stop, look, stop, look)

My gut feeling is the smaller tractor is more stable...but I routinely mow with my L3010 at slopes approaching 20 degrees with impunity. My tires are ballasted and the wheels are at the widest setting. Hope this helps.

the 2910 being smaller will of course be easier to handel in tight palces, the 3010 is larger and heavier. can't really say about stability on slopes, guess it depends on the deg. of angle. can u try them both out ? also what is more important to u? manuverability or larger mass? sometimes bigger is not better, but u need to make final choice. let us know what u decide and welcome to the forum.

I've got to go with the L3010. it has a wider strance. wider =stability. Yes it is a little heavier, but wider ='s more satblilty.

Ral,

When we were researching our purchase last March, we were in the same predicament. The drivers for us were:

- Maneuverability- needed machine narrow enough for vineyard operations.

- Power - Needed enough power for above operations (sprayers, towing, PHD, Mowing etc...), but not overkill (hence wasted funds).

- Versatility- we also use the machine for general yard work, grass cutting, pasture maintenance etc... and didn't want the heavier weight of the L3010.

We went with the B2910 HSD 4x4. The LA402 loader is fantastic and the whole combo is more than enough for our 16 acre farm & vineyard. Stability wise I'm sure the heavier L3010 is slightly more stable, but we have never had a problem with our B2910. Some of our slopes approach 15 degrees too.

Good Luck,

Tony

I went thru the same decision process just a few months ago. I drove the 2710 and 3010 (dealer didn't have a 2910 available that day, but said the footprint of the 2710 was the same). I used a portion of pavement which had a pattern in it, so I could see the difference in turn radius. It surprised me how little the difference was. I'm sure the 2910 is more maneuverable, but the extra weight and width of the 3010 gives better stability. I went with the 3010 and am very glad I did. For the brush hogging the extra weight helps my 3010 handle a 5' brush hog with no problem, even on my steep slopes. I'm still surprised at how much more stable my 3010 is on my hills vs. my ATV 4x4 or simplicity 17hp mower. I have R4's loaded.

Hi all, my second post in a couple of yrs of following this great forum. Got my new B-2910 HST 4wd last yr. Just want to say my 60" brushhog works great on the very steep sidehills in my pasture. Was a hayfield 80 yrs ago, now has 18" trees. I back up the hills to a wall (can't turn around up there) and mow both ways-up & down. I do wish the wheel spread was a little greater, but I don't plan to tip it over!!
I have other ?'s and items I will post this winter. Too busy mowing and chipping w/4" pto Patu chipper. Earle

I own a 2910 and am quite happy. Live next to a national forest in the mountains and my property, 20 acres, goes from 3800 to 4125 ft elevation. Yes I do have hills and have had more than my share of puckers!

One factor you should consider is the L series allows you to widen your rear wheels. Kubota advises NOT to do this with the 2710-2910 tractors.

Check with your dealer and ask for center of gravity points with a stock tractor WITH driver. I do not know but you just might find the heavier L series has a lower CG with driver aboard. Coupled with a wider stance you would have a more stable tractor.

I still love my 2910. And have no plans to trade in the future but I today I might go bigger if I made the same decision today. I thought I could mow in tighter spaces- even the B series is too large to mow around the house so I still use a hand mower for the tight spaces.

Remember DO NOT travel across a hill under any circumstance. You might be just fine until one wheel climbs a hidden rock and the other wheel drops into a rut.

Good luck

Rick

I am on a very steep hill and have tipped the L3010 on more then one occasion (I am fast with the front bucket!)
The owner of the dealership lives across the hill from me and he purchased the 2910. He said he would have bought the 3010 if he had gotten the same deal I did (timing is everything).
He still says the same thing and he and I are fairly close friends.
I have R4s at the widest possible stance and appreciate the 60" rotary mower for additional stability and weight. I never take off the front bucket or my seat belt.
I also bought the HST and recommend you do the same.
Have fun and drive them both!
