When I have my B2920 in four wheel drive should both front wheels spin when loading the bucket? Only one will spin at a time. Just making sure this is normal? I was thinking they would both be locked in? I guess that would make it hard to turn though.

Kubota's "4 wd" has open differentials on both ends. The differential lock works on the rear tires only.

Like iplumb says, open differential. It is like most 4WD systems. You can get "lockers" for trucks and my ATV/RUV have a selector to lock the front wheels, it does make them hard to steer, tears the ground up and put a lot of strain on the gears. You would really have to beef up the front differential on a tractor to stand the strain put on it by turning with a full bucket. I am sure it would also add quite a bit to the price.

One of the selling points of the M7040 is that it has a locking front differential. It is unusual to have one and was a reason a tractor that size was chosen.

It has been engaged and it is quite nice to be able to yank the tractor out of axle-deep mud. The huge front tires are a factor as well.

However, it is "limited slip" or "posi-traction" in car lingo so one wheel has to spin before the other decides to chip in to help out.

Thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure something wasn't wrong. This all makes since. When my Yamaha Rhino front diff. is locked you can hardly turn.
