My BX does not have a split brake. My "on the way" 2920 appears to have it, but from what I have read on here, it is too awkward to use. If anyone has used it on this series, I would like to hear how, and why people use a split brake to begin with.

I have never used one, so I am curious why it has it at such a location if it is useful.

Thanks!

I am going to confess that I haven't read all of the other threads, but here are my thoughts.

Individual brakes help in several ways: turning corners tighter than the steering wheels allow and steering the tractor when the front wheels don't have enough traction. On older machines, without a differential lock, they would also allow you to manually transfer power from the wheel that slipped to the wheel that gripped.

From what I can see on the Kubota B2920, the individual brake pedals are on the same side as the direction control pedals. This will render them nearly useless unless you are driving with the cruise control on, because you cannot use brakes and the direction pedals at the same time. On some other brands, the individual brake pedals are on the opposite side from the direction pedals. This allows them to be used more conveniently.

Hope this helps some and congrats on the new toy

Thanks Triple R. I looked last night, but missed a couple of those threads. I get it now, the cruise control releases when "both" are pressed.

I doubt I will ever really need it in my situation, but good to know.

Thanks!

One last note, I don't want a flame war here. Thanks for the replies guys, I have my answer now

One more snippet. If you are traveling fast and stomp on one brake pedal then the unbraked wheel doubles it speed. The quick turn can be quite alarming and dangerous depending on the terrain.

That may be why the brake is on the same side as the accelerator/direction control. You have to lift off of the speed control when braking.

Glad we could be of some help.
