B3030 and L403 chain hooks

Yepper I got ya! I just extended mine all the way across...and have a bracket I had made welded dead center..and the hooks towards the ends of the buckets. With the bracket...I cna add a clevis and 2-3 loops of chain and then a hook..so I can take up some "twist and roll" without breaking anything.
Luckily I dont have ( nor intend on having) anything REALLY heavy to attempt to lift. I just have a BUNCH of downed trees..etc..etc..that are way too heavy to drag very far..AND...no where to really hook any chain too..to begin with.

Just read your post and I have done something similar as the others. I have a L3130 hst with a 723 FEL. Welded a 3 x 3 angle across the bucket top (between arm supports) and welded 3 hooks. Works very well for anything I have needed to this point. If you are dragging trees, be careful about pulling even slightly sideways with the bucket off the ground. I very nearly tipped myself into the trees lifting a log from the front and pulling backwards. Only had 3 hours on the machine.... Good thing I had my hand on the bucket lever and had the presence of mind to drop the bucket. After a quick trip to clean out the shorts, I cut up the log and resumed work.

I was just reading this, I was wondering if you had pics of what you welded for the bucket and your hooks? I am looking to do the same thing and am wondering about the best way to go about it, maybe I'll try starting a new thread and see what good ideas people have.... As for pulling wouldn't it be better off of the drawbar then pulling with the hooks on the bucket?

I am also doing a lot of land clearing using an L3130 with a 723 FEL. But I go my dragging with a 3/8" chain hooked to the swing bar. The 3/8" hooks just fit the swing bar hole if you attach it on the side of the bar. This method keeps the tractor stable and avoids the possibility of bending anything expensive. I got my chain on Ebay from cargosupply. They sent two for under $50 in a USPS priority mailing box since USPS only charges $7.50 for anything you can cram in the box. I think my postman has been out for hernia surgery after delivering that box, as I couldn't lift it off of the porch. I also bought a set of QA forks for my FEL which have been invaluable. A grapple would have been ideal but the host of additional remotes and a good grapple was getting way too pricey. Using the forks enables me to get the trunks off the ground and reduce then to manageable pieces of firewood. Putting the bucket back on facilitates transporting the logs over to a splitter at a rate of 0.1 cord per load /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. The ideal attachment for clearing would be a weight/toolbox on the 3 point hitch. It would weigh at least 400 pounds empty to provide ballast to the tractor and have a lot of storage area for chainsaws, tools, gasoline, chains, rope and of course the mandatory ice chest.

A lot of good ideas there, which one is the swing bar? I have been using the drawbar on a 2" ball ? don't know if this is proper or not but seems to work. I am just curious the best ideas to put the hooks on? When you find one of these toolboxes let me know, that sounds useful, especially the cooler....

I'll take a picture and post the chain hook-up later today. The toolbox is only a dream today. Maybe they'll sell them on TBN next month.

I also have a B3030 with 403 FEL. I thought about welding a hook on the top of my bucket but decided to weld a tie down ring inside the bucket instead. It is at the bend in the back of the bucket which makes it a very strong location so as not bend anything. When the bucket is curled down so that the chain does not touch the cutting edge it is very close to the point where the lift arms attach so it has maximum lift capability at that location. I also plan on adding 2 hooks to the top of the bucket near the ends for lifting lighter loads. Lifting at two points on short chains will allow greater control and minimize swing. So far, the ring has worked very well.

You have to forgive me, sometimes I am a little slow, so the swing bar is similar to the draw bar, or the same thing? The horizontal bar holds the reciever? or does it play in with the swing bar? I am still learning so I am interested in seeing different applications...
