Is the 3030 worth the extra money ($1800) in Central FL. over the 7800?

Ernie, it would be to me and not to others. Just compare the features and decide what the "deluxe" features on the B3030 are worth to you.

Well thats just it. I'm looking at the specs and since I'm new to tractors, I cant tell what is better for example.

3030 has an independant PTO, the 7800 has live continuous. Is that a big deal?? I have no idea.

3030 has a position control valve, the 7800 a 1/4 inching valve, again, its all greek to me.

Other than, a ratchet adjuster for the 3ph and tilt steering, and some new styling, I cant find much difference to justify the price, and neither can the sales guy, but then again, he has 7800's in stock and he doesnt have a 3030. So I'm looking for objective advice.

Ernie, go to Kubota.com, click on "Products", then "Tractor", then the model you want to look at, click on specifications and print that page, then do the same thing for the other model. Then compare them. The B7800 is a fine tractor and you can save some money, but . . .
B3030 has about 1 more PTO hp
Both considered 30 engine hp, but the B3030 develops its hp about 300 fewer rpm
B3030 has both front and rear hydraulic outlets compared to the rear only for the B7800
B3030 has a very slightly higher top speed (not enough to consider)
B3030 has position control while B7800 has quarter inching valve; both work, but a major feature difference to me
B3030 has the tilt steering wheel, hydraulic independent PTO (not a major deal to me, but maybe to others), mechanical cruise, and I think telescoping lower links on the 3-point hitch

I'm not saying, in any way, that one is "better" than the other; just that they have different features that would make me prefer the B3030 enough to make it seem worth the cost difference, but for financial reasons, I haven't always bought my first preference. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for your input. I've spent more time on the Kubota site than I care to admit, I'm going cross-eyed. I guess the one consideration is that I need it NOW, and the 7800 is in stock at the dealer I want to deal with. I dont like the dealer closer to home with the unit in stock, I got fed a load of crap, high prices, and a piss poor attitude. The other guy is going to deliver a unit to me so I can test drive it. I cant make up my mind settling on a MMM or a rear discharge rear mower.

I have 23 acres to mow, 2 acre pasture, 1 5.5 acre and 4 3.5 acre pastures. I only have about 10 feet between pasture fences that also need to be mowed and 90 degree turns. My thinking that it would be easier to do the fence lines and to make the turns with the MMM, but the dealer seems to think that I'll tear it up doing the pastures.

my dealer didn't have b3030 in stock either but picked one up from another dealer. had loader/mmm installed and ready in 3 days from purchase. the difference in price was worth it to ME. i prefer 3030 over 7800........ /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have 30 hours on my B3030 with FEL, 60" MMM & 5' RB. I am very happy with the tractor. It is a full featured tractor in every way, just like the big ones I grew up driving on my Dad's farm. The position control is worth it alone for the rear blade and when hooking up to other 3pt implements. I also have a two bottom plow and I modified my pull type leaf vacuum to work on the 3pt hitch. The tilt wheel is great for getting on and off plus I think the tractor looks more modern than the B7800 which should help resale someday. I plan on keeping the tractor for a long time so once I compared the two I justified the extra cost based on the fact that I have never been sorry after I bought the best I could afford in any purchase I have ever made. If you have large areas to mow you might like the cruise control as well. They are both good tractors though, so you have to decide between convenience and styling versus cost. Good luck. You really can't go wrong with either in my opinion.

It's hard to buy your first tractor when you don't have a clue what to look for and what will fit your needs for many years to come.
Several of us here are on our 2nd tractor within a five year period because we didn't know what we needed/wanted for the long haul.

If you ever do any dirt work with a box blade or any other kind of blade to level something the position control is far better to use, also position control will hold it's height using a rotary mower/bushhog.
The B3030 HST is smoother acting than the B7800.
Bird did a great job of listing everything else under the sun in the differences /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
You may be kicking youself later over 1800.00 difference when you later find out you wished you had something the B3030 has that the B7800 doesn't.

I did this adventure a few years ago and settled on the 7800. Was it worth it? Well looking back it is *still* hard to say.

"B3030 has position control while B7800 has quarter inching valve" - I did NOT think I would need this, then I ended up doing a lot of raking and smoothing of materials. it took more time because I had to be carefull of the 3-pt position.

"B3030 has the tilt steering wheel" - If you spend a lot of time on the tractor this gives you a comfort factor. Have I missed this, ahhhhh.... sure.

"mechanical cruise" - The B7800 is a set switch. Now that I have more space I have used it a lot. I think this is a wash to compare.

"telescoping lower links on the 3-point hitch" - Well if one looks at parts alone to get the B7800 to telescoping links, it is around 200-300 bucks. You play with attachments long enough and your back will thank you for telescoping links. Plus, I did bend and replace a link on the B7800 anyway, the turnbuckles can do the job, but the telescoping makes it easier.

Over the life of a three year loan, the 1000 bucks to me, IMHO is a wash for the features. I thought a 1000 bucks would get me some attachments at my time of purchase, and it did, so I settled on the B7800. But now, a few years later, I would have found ANOTHER way to get the attachments.

Hey, isn't the seat more comfy on the 3030's too?

Overall, the B7800 did and does the job for me. I have however outgrown it with the new property.

Good luck in your choice.

The Kubota 72" MMM is a tough mower. But if you are mowing pasture you may need a Rotary Cutter in addition. The MMM or RFM will not do a good job of cutting tall grass or pasture. How often do you plan on cutting the 23 acres. Even if it's monthly, that's a long time to be sitting in the seat. MY 72" MMM will cut about 2 acres per hour. 60" Rotary Cutter gets about 1 acre per hour if grass is not to thick.
Are you planning on getting a FEL with your tractor?
I use the cruise control on my B2910 (B3030 replaced this model)long runs of grass.
There are several threads where TBNer's have spent the money and time to convert their 3PH lower links to the type that the B3030 has. Because it's easier to install 3PH attachment and adjust sway control.
When I purchased my B2910 there was only $1000 difference from the B2710. Which had less HP and none of the premium features. It was easier to make the decision. Today you have the B7800, that is an economy model tractor that has even less features than the B2710 had. The features that swayed me where Tilt & Telescoping steering wheel, Position Control 3PH, Telescoping Lower links, and Cruise Control. I had several tractors before I bought the B2910. This made it much easier to make a decision for the added features.
