I have a B6100E with a backhoe attachment that bolts to the frame. It appears to be original to the tractor since there is no 3 point hitch installed and the splines still have the original paint on them. I have 2 questions:

1. When lifting the main boom on the backhoe, there are times the lifting action is jerky when trying to move it slowly. The jerking action only stops when I pull the level back all of the way moving the boom faster. Is this an issue with the hydraulic cylinder on the boom or with the control valve? All of the other movements on the backhoe are smooth in slow or fast mode.

2. Could someone recommend a good book on tractor hydraulic systems to help me become more educated on them.

Learning about hydraulics would be good, and something I should do. However, I'd make sure the problem isn't lubrication before tackling the hydraulics.

When I first got the tractor, I had the same problem you describe when lowering the loader boom slowly. I thought I had a hydraulics problem. Turns out that somebody put 90-degree zirks in the upper boom arms which were almost impossible to get a gun on. The problem went away when I replaced the 90 degree zirks with 45's and greased them several times.
