B7100 3 point hitch

I brought home my new used B7100 sunday and got to play with it a little monday afternoon.

I'm on the learning curve with the front end loader and after about an hour and a half I'm still alive and starting to get the hang of it. Everything is a little slower as the tractor is gear drive and I drive so many different standard vehicles I have to stop and think where 3rd and reverse are while I'm manipulating the bucket. The old brain ain't what it once was.

My question here is about my 3 pt hitch. It raises up somewhat quickly but it doesn't want to go down without adding pressure, Like say my buddy standing on it. I'm hoping there is an simple adjustment maybe even the same as what makes it go higher or lower.

On another point: I've figured out how to make the hitch be fixed from swinging left and right and was wondering the best way to use the draw bar with a trailer hitch ball as I want to move my boats to their winter quarters snug beside the barn. I also have a small wood trailer that has a trailer hitch and its time to go fetch the cord wood.

Maybe the draw bar and ball hitch is not as good as another method. I'll be interested in hearing any suggestions.

There is a down-speed adjustment nut under your seat, on the right hand side. Mine is painted yellow -- I'm not sure if that is factory, or if a previous owner painted it.

Mine was painted from the factory too.

As to the trailer hitch I'll attach a picture of one that was built for my B7100. It worked well for me and may give some ideas on what would work for you.

"Egon" That hitch looks perfect I've been searching for something like this.

It looks like you can lift a log and still use the ball while there is some protection to the tires and pto.

Questions:

Did you consider adding a triangle as a brace instead of a T?

Does the ball get in the way when lifting logs or whatever?

Is a regular draw bar incorporated into the the horizontal at the bottom.

Does the shelf created on the horizontal help when lifting.

Is there anything that you would add like say extend the top lift 3 or 4 inches to assist in clearance.

Can I take this design directly to my welder to make one for me.

There is bracing on the side you cant see.

The Ball does not get in the way.

There is a regular drawbar in the bottom location on the tractor. I never used it.

One can slide the shelf under items to lift. They may fall off when going ahead. It comes in handy doing this to lift a log so a chain can be placed under it.

What you see is an idea made from materials at hand. { Free }

When one is made for the new old John Deere I'd have a tendency to use more tubing and have three receivers for trailer hitches welded on. Also there would be chain hooks welded on.

The picture may give you an some points to ponder if you design your own. There are limitless method's of putting such an attachment together for your own personal use.

The attached picture shows a sorta home built rake - harrow that I use for seeding or the very odd time raking up mowed grass clippings.

the stock drawbar is rigidly attached, so if you want this hitch/shelf to raise and lower you don't want it attached to that draw bar. wonder what would break first!?

if you're looking for other uses of the shelf and think the ball may get in the way, just have the fabricator allow the ball to be bolted on and off. then you'll always have the option to remove it later if needed.

MLD This is the three point hitch I used to drag logs. (EBAY LINK ABOVE) It has a clevis hook at the top mount. All you do is lower your three point down to its lowest point, wrap your chain around the log twice and slip the chain thru the clevis hook. Then lift the three point up and lift the log as well, THEN drag it home. WORKS GREAT.

As for protection, being the chain is so short it does not allow the log to sway too much so it stays right behind the tractor.

Being that the B7100 three point is only rated for 400 lbs (I think it will lift much more) the standard hitch tongue weight of 500 lbs you can use any receiver hitch mount. I am planning a host of attachment for my Three point receiver (Carry all forks, detacher, winch, Aerator, ect.) once I get a welder or find someone who has one and does not mind me giving him projects.

awesome, thanks for that Ebay link! i clicked on it and noticed that that bar in the picture is the same part i found in the garage when i bought the house. previous owner left it there and i had no clue what it was for. now i have a 3ph attachment to play with.

Jas 67, Egon, Chuckanut, and the (lucky) Grossgary. thank you for your responses on the three point hitch.

I thought more about what I wanted in in a draw bar and 3pt hitch set up and thought that I couldn't be that unique and that some company must make just the right thing for a small tractor that would do it all. I started searching online and came up with three besides the hitch that The lucky Grossgary found just laying about his garage. Bye the Bye Grossgary How does the hitch work? Have you had a chance to try it out yet?

1st is on EZ com I have it in my notes and picture as the EZ com hitch not sure if that is accurate or not. It's a basic triangle that attaches to the 3pt hitch with one hole for a trailer ball.

2nd is the Flex Point Adapter found at Northern Tool, this is also a triangle with a receiver that accepts pin, pintle and ball inserts. This looks great but three things bother me for my application. The first is it's 24 inches wide at the draw bar. The draw bar on my B7100 is 20 inches. It may fit but does seem big. 2nd problem is enough room to put a hook for lifting logs on the top with the hitch and not have to weld one on. The third issue is the receiver sticks out some and might get in the way when lifting. Its definitely rugged enough but I think I found one better.

That is Number 3 on the "Hitch Parade" The Handi-Hitch found at Redlandhill Home Page They make a smaller triangular set up 20 inches at the draw bar. It comes with three holes for two balls and a shackle and they also make additional accessories like a short boom pole for lifting, a receiver hitch that is flush with the draw bar that bolts on and even a tool box thats 36" by 16'' perfect for my chain saw gas tank etc.

I don't think the Handi-Hitch is as rugged as the Flex point adapter but I have a smaller machine that can only lift and pull so much. Any way take a look and tell me what you think. I realize I could have something made up cheaper but how much cheaper and is it worth me running around to find a welder and all.
