No Bird, it doesn't make much sense to me. I was under the assumption that the clutch is what made the difference between the BX2200 and the rest. Your info kinda blows that a bit. I hope I didn't get a tractor that will be so difficult that the wife will shy away from using it. The BX2200 would have been the one for her. Oh well, more seat time for ME!!!!

I have a 2710 three range hydro also and it will start with it in any of the three ranges and in neutral. It will not start with the PTO activated. Mines a 2001 and I don't know why the difference between Birds and mine.

That's interesting. One thing that happened to me (more than once I'm embarrassed to say /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif), is that I leave the kill lever "out", and forget about it when I go through the starting drill. It cranks for several seconds, I start thinking something is wrong, then I remember to push in the kill lever. Oh well. Guess I'm human. Or is that CRS creeping back in /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Yukon, I assume they changed that from my '99 model to your '01 model, and I didn't know they'd made that change either. Does your manual still say to put the gear selector in "neutral"? Of course, that wouldn't necessarily mean it had to be in neutral, since my manual also says to set the park brake before starting, even though that's not necessary to start it. But I do know it really is necessary for the gear selector to be in neutral.

Yeah, Bill, I've done that on some other tractors, but the B2710 doesn't have a kill lever; has an electric solenoid fuel shutoff; just turn off the key like a car. I never park it with the PTO engaged, and I never forget to step on the clutch before hitting the starter, but I have hit the starter and got nothing a few times, so I know immediately to check the gear selector lever; that's always the solution.

I've done the kill knob thing a time or two myself, but I eventually decided to use it as a tiny bit of theft deterrent. If anyone is determined enough to break into my shop (some evil relatives come to mind), get the big door open and hot-wire the starter, they're still going to have to know about the kill thingy and a couple of other lever positions that have to be just right in order to start my L2500.

You just never know what's going to work. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Harv, trouble is that only works if they don't know anything about tractors./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I know on a lot of tractors (particularly old ones), you don't even have to hot wire them, or have a key; pocket knife, screwdrive, nail clippers, or almost anything else will do./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

That's the good news, Bird -- my evil relatives ain't too bright. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Then I should be okay as long as they pass through a major air terminal to get to my place. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gifSounds like you're in good shape, Harv./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Bird,

I would add that my 2910 starts with the clutch depressed and the gear selector in any position. Sometimes I forget and press the "gas" pedal to start it which, of course, is the hst!/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif As an aside, twice now I have put my truck in reverse, backed up, then pushed on the gas to go forwards, thinking subconsciously that it was a hydrostat./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif I'm still trying the get the steering wheel dent out of my forehead from the last time!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
