I can't believe I'm about to do this. My local dealer, only a mile up the road (how's that for convenience), can't keep much in stock. He located a B7800 at another dealer not too far away and is trading to bring it in. It is being offered with the FEL, folding ROPS, R4 tires, and mid-PTO for $14,900. Should have it on his lot in a few days. From growing up on a farm, I am also seriously thinking of having the tires loaded.

Now my other problem . . . the attachments. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
At this point I am only needing a rear mower and a tiller. This dealer sells Land Pride. I am thinking of going with the FDR1660 (60" finish) rear discharge mower. I have about 2 acres of mowing that is only grass & weeds - no brush. If I keep at it every 3 or 4 weeks, it shouldn't be a problem. He is offering the mower for $1350.

My problem is the tiller. He is currently offering the Land Pride 50" tiller for $1550. I still cannot get past the King Kutter II tillers for $1000. I understand KK isn't the "luxury" brand, but I just haven't read anything bad in this site regarding them. Any thoughts?

Also, would this tractor be able to run a 60" tiller without killing the tractor. The KK flier states that the 60" requires 25-40 HP to operate. I am assuming that means PTO HP, not engine. The B7800 is rated at 22 PTO HP. But I have been reading where most are running quite large tillers (IMO).

Thanks once again for the help! I'll be broke in a few days! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

That sounds like a good deal to me, and I'd definitely go with the 60" KK tiller if it were me.

Congrats. I love my 7800. I have the HST, folding ROPS, Turf tires, mid PTO and RFM. Mine is a bush hog 60" and it does a great job. I cut one part of my lot once in a while, grass can be 8" and it doesn't even cough. sounds like you got a good price on it. I paid about $500 more for mine. I did get my tires loaded and with the turf tires I needed it. I can spin them in the mud, but 4WD gets me going.

BOL, Frank

I should also mention that my soil is largly clay. Not the worst around though. When dry it gets tough to deal with, and I don't even bother with it when it's wet. This is why I was questioning if it would be bad going with a 60" tiller. I plan to rectify this soon by tilling in all kinds of organic matter. Also a load or two of sand wouldn't hurt.

i would think the b7800 will handel the 60" tiller. but if u are concerned, then go with the 50, will do the same job just take a little longer. i would go with the 60"

Hi,

I feel my only mistake when buying my B2910 last year was that I went with the 60 inch rear discharge RFM. A 72 inch would have been better. The 60 inch does not stick out beyond the tires enough, at least in my opinion.

I suggest you seriously consider the 72 inch RFM. Too bad you are not closer...I could give you a great deal on a 60 inch Woods RFM with about 3 cutting hours on it. It was very dry last fall...and this year I am doing some things that make using the RFM a chore, so I have been using my old garden tractor...I really do wish I had gone with the 72 inch rear mower!

brooster,

Well, I can tell you what I decided, although I have no practical experience as yet to back it up. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I just ordered a Woods GTO60 60" offset tiller for my B2910. Our ground is clay with a good assortment of rocks. I figured the tractor should be able to handle a tiller of this size, especially after the first initial till. However, if I find that the 60" width is too much for the first till, I can always remove the blades from one flange and I basically now have the next tiller down in size. In theory, I guess this should work.

Since I won't be doing much tilling, I thought this was an acceptable compromise. To be honest, I'm so impressed with the power of this tractor, I don't expect the 60" tiller to be much of a problem.

The reason for my decision for a 60" RFM is because if I ever decide to run this thing through my lawn, I didn't want to scalp (I don't have the flattest lawn around). Plus I have 15 trees around the house (time to call a tree service and remove some!) that I need to get around! At the very least I need to haul out the chain saw and remove a bunch of lower branches so the B7800 ROPS won't get hung. Although it would probably be much easier to just fold the ROPS, wouldn't it?!

The majority of my mowing (small pastures, around barn) is flat, all grassy and weeds, no brush or trees. Since I didn't want to purchase a rotary cutter at this time, I was thinking the 60" could handle this better if I do it every 3 or 4 weeks. Besides, a 60" will give me more time on the tractor than the 72". /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I think the B7800 is a great choice as I too have been eyeing them. Currently have a JD4100 and with 20 engine HP compared to your 30, I run a 50" Bushhog brand tiller used in the heaviest of clay soils here in Georgia. No problem at all. It chews it up and motor does not even know it. So my guess is 60" will work with the 7800.
As far as KK, I have a little reservation there. Yes, they are cheap but there is a reason for that. I have not owned the tiller but did have a 48" rear mower that was not the greatest. Lost several blade spindle bearings over 5 years and I found although decking and wheel brace metal was extra heavy, it was also somewhat soft. I bent it up in several places until I got tired of fixing it and bought another Bushhog brand rear finish mower just the other day. If you must save a few bucks today, go ahead and get the KK tiller and if you are real careful with it, maybe you will get 5 + years out of it but realize the quality you are buying. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: B7800 - Not so almost!

This is quite depressing but, the deal has fallen through! The dealer I am working through had found a B7800 at another dealership on Saturday and was going to swap to bring it in. Got a call today that the other dealership sold both units he had over the weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The other dealers in the area only have about 1 unit each and will not give it up on trade. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I asked about ordering one and was told that there is a shipment of 25 supposedly coming in a few weeks, and of those 25, 36 are spoken for! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif That is correct. Looks like I'm not getting one after all.

Just call me a "B7800 wanna-be"!
